Morning Roundup: Post Primary Edition

Good morning, Washington. Did you watch the results from New Hampshire? Yeah, we did, too. On the off chance that you missed it, John McCain won the Republican primary and Hillary Clinton edged out Barack Obama on the Democratic side. Oh, and we're pretty sure that Chris Matthews has some sort of neurological problem. On to the news!

Report Blasts St. Elizabeth's: Today's Post carries a story about a new report from the nonprofit group University Legal Services. The document examines the care received by eleven people who died while patients at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the mentally ill. The charges are damning, with ULS alleging that St. Elizabeth's provided substandard care that may have contributed to some of the patients' deaths.

Kaine Announces Va. Gun Legislation: Virginia's governor has introduced a bill to close the so-called gun show loophole, as NBC4 details. Accompanied by some of the families of victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy, Kaine said that he intends to require all purchasers at gun shows to undergo background checks. However, as WJLA points out, there's a good chance that the Virginia legislature will spend much of this session deadlocked, and gun rights advocates are expected to strongly oppose the measure. Stay tuned.

Briefly Noted: Police impersonator accidentally pulls over off-duty cop, is arrested... Skeleton found on farm in Garrett County; no signs of foul play, haunting... No new parking garage for Vienna Metro... Two boys sentenced for putting acid on playground slide... Gag order issued in Sean Taylor murder trial... Md. woman missing... Two teen, one man shot by drive-by shooter near high school in P.G. County... Three other teens shot in Northeast...

This Day In DCist: One year ago D.C. United was up for sale and Michael Bloomberg was visiting the city.

Bravo to DCist for upping the average time for the Morning Roundup to a decent hour...like morning, not on the verge of mid-day.

Whatever you do, NEVER try and create a new identity to avoid creditors/your ex-spouse and NEVER use the Instant Background Check system to verify that new identity is "clean."

I made that mistake when I went from "D.B. Cooper" to "monkeyrotica" and the Visa/Mastercard offers went up exponentially.

I second RJ.

I third RJ.

I fourth RJ.

I second Mingus Drew, rm, and DCfist.

I refuse to second monkey until he acknowledges Ron Paul as his Lord and Savior. Or until he gives me $1, whichever happens first.

What, have we turned into an AOL forum, circa 1996? "Me too!" ;-p

First!

Your sniping has made the world a better place.

I loooove sniping. And submitting pointless posts so that I can raise my DCist 30-day ranking. Woot!!

Red herring. We provide the eyeballs that the advertisers pay for.
