How very "Washingtonian" (not the magazine).
Article about Washington architecture, and they spend a quarter of it bitching about Rosslyn.
Why does DDOT keep f***ing with P Street? Keep screwing around with commercial corridors and jacking up their property taxes and watch the small businesses fold. But I guess that isn't DDOT's problem.
The new project from Dupont Circle P Street to 13th/P doesnt seem like it will effect too many businesses. There's only a few places at 17th/P, which I think will still do just fine because of all the foot traffic. The rest of P, between 15th and 13th has been "streetscaped" for a long time now with the construction of that new condo building on the corner of 15th/P.
ces12, I'm not certain what you mean by "The rest of P, between 15th and 13th has been "streetscaped" for a long time now". The new condo building at 15th and P is still way under construction, and the rest of P has not been "streetscaped"--there are some new cement sidewalks and a couple of tree boxes which resulted form the construction of the Whole Foods and other buildings on the block, but the type of work DDOT is discussing (utilities, regrading, repaving, new lights, etc.) hasn't been dealt with. You can be sure that an already headache-inducing block will become much, much worse once DDOT gets going on this.
Ugh, the 11th-14th/Q St project is now two months past projected end date. The noise was the bane of my Saturday and Sunday mornings for months, though they seem to be in less of a hurry now.
I dug the Washingtonian article, but I could've done with some visual stimulation on the web version.
That Washingtonian article bothered me a LOT, not only because of the extensive discourse on Rosslyn but also, and moreso, the fact that while in Gallery Place they all but ignore Patent Office/NPG/SAAM Building, despite it's fairly recent renovation and the courtyard canopy by one of the biggest name architects DC has seen in a long while. Also, don't know about anyone else, but the interviewer's questions just, I don't know, annoyed me I guess. Not really sure why...
