Breaking: Capitol Police Arrest Man Armed with Gun, Sword, Bow and Arrow

2008_0118_capitol.jpgFrom WUSA, news that U.S. Capitol Police have arrested a man walking down 1st St NE with a tactical vest, a loaded shotgun, a tactical bow and arrow and a samurai sword in a hidden case behind his back.

The story is still emerging, but police apparently also found his car, a Chevy with Utah plates, and bomb sniffing dogs alerted positive for explosives in the vehicle. There were also more weapons in the car.

No word yet on where the armed man may have been heading. WUSA reports the area has been cordoned off during the investigation.

NBC4 says the area that's been blocked off is around Columbus Circle, including parts of Louisiana Avenue, D Street and First Street.

WJLA says the man was "apparently headed to the Supreme Court building." The U.S. Supreme Court docket indicates the Court wasn't hearing any arguments today.

Whoa! Holms was loaded for bear!

In 2007, I feel that there is no longer any such thing as a tactical bow and arrow. Any "tactic" involving a bow and arrow has pretty profound inherent limitations.

As does any plan for an armed assault on the Capitol that includes:

[...]
"6. Go back to car and retrieve other weapons."

the mormons are coming to get us!

Maybe it was Wesley Snipes trying to clear his name after that tax evasion fiasco.

Yes, WOV, but maybe in 2008 there is.

Unfair, Jen209!

I will put on my amber shooting goggles and tactical pants and then you will feel the wrath of my QVC knife collection!

It must have been Rambo coming to testify before the steroid hearings.

BTW, how do you hide all that stuff in a "hidden case on his back"? It seems spatial impossible to hide that that much stuff!

All the streets around my office (444 North Capitol NW) are shut down. Pretty intense.

Holy crap. It's like he had a gift card to one of those weird redneck hunting catalogs.

Well since nothing bad happened I can say that I'm disappointed he didn't come to Union Station because I'm itching to start my three day weekend.

Further proof that the District's sword-control laws don't work.

Even though they aren't hearing oral arguments today, the Justices may have been in conference and, thus, in the building.

BMosley, I think only the samurai sword was hidden.

Insert Ted Nugent joke here.

If we outlaw swords, only outlaws will have swords.

Also, next time I'd suggest a strategic bow, rather than a tactical one.

Wow, shows how much you miss when you work in a cube farm with no windows! I'm just on the other side of Union Station (Thurgood Marshall building) and I had no idea any of this was jumping off.

mellbell, it wouldn't surprise me if someone who pulled a stunt like this was unaware of when the Supreme Court or Congress are or are not in session.

EdTheRed, the strategic bows are, what, 10, 20 thousand pounds?

And the sound of the caterpillar tracks would tip off the Capitol Police blocks away.

It is clear you are no bow and arrow tactician.

Breaking: A man attempting to find the S&M area of the Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend (http://www.leatherweekend.com/events.php) mistook the Capitol building for a dungeon. He was subsequently apprehended and forced to polish a Capitol Police Officer's sword collection while wearing a ball and chain.

WOV, I assume that the guy had a HEMI-powered Dodge Ram capable of hauling a full-size ballista. At least, if those Dodge TV commercials are accurate...

...of course, if he had a compact pickup, well, he's clearly not worthy of a strategic bow.

And here I thought the Hill was full of another kind of s word.

Headline edit:

LARPer shuts down Capitol Hill. Rolls Save Throw for handcuffs. Fails.

maybe the case behind his back is by Mary Poppins Carpetbaggery

Did anyone who is on Capitol Hill understand that Capitol Hill Police loudspeaker announcement? I'm on 4th and D NE and couldn't hear it very well.

I had no idea that Daywalker vampires were also Mormons. Mitt Romney's candidacy suddenly makes sense.

Nah, he's clearly playing Amber and just missed his jump.

Went outside and heard the boom.. chatted it up with the cops. They're worth their salt, catching ninjas is hard.

Excellent headline "To catch a Ninja".

Xian beat me to it, but I'll add that between the bow and arrow and the sword, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that you'll also find a 12-sided die on that guy too.

Sorry about that, guys. I was totally blazed, didn't realize where I was. I'm surprised the cops have let me out already. They even let me keep my vest.

Plus, I scored a critical hit on Monkeyrotica's helper monkey, which incapacitated Monkeyrotica himself for 2d4 turns. In case you were wondering why he hadn't weighed in.
