X in D.C. Heads West
Every third Saturday, a group of underground artists, dancers and other creative types gather at BeBar for X in D.C.. We previewed the event last year, a night that includes a live graphic design competition, with the artists competing for prizes and having their design used for the next month's flyer, multiple musical guests, dancers, painters, fashion design, and visuals. Every month features almost all new artists, making every X event a completely different experience. The photos above are from last Saturday's X event.
The organizers must be on to something, because X is no longer just "in D.C." Next Tuesday, X hits the road to Salt Lake City to be part of a competition for 17 graphic designers who will make work for Burton Snowboards, judged by Pro Snowboarder Shaun White. Then X heads over to Colorado where they'll team up with HP for some "cutting edge video remixing" in a live event they're calling “HP Digital Arts Café.” Back at home, you can catch the regular monthly event on February 16.

Is that “on to” something, or “on” something. Because I have to think those Mormons in Salt Lake are going to be even less enthused about “Princess Lea doing interpretive dance to Cello solo” than they are about snowboarders. And as a snowboarder, I know they aren’t too thrilled with our lot. I can’t imagine combining the two will bolster the position of either.
Hey Monkey—might be time to take that O Street one monkey show on the road.
Like burning man, yet somehow dorkier.
X is a really great event.
I went with my guard up up up, I'll admit, and met nothing but nice, interesting people who are also interested in who you are.
It was so strange to find something so absolutely free of posturing in this city, it was refreshing.
so registeringsucks- don't go.
i cant decide if i love or hate that tron jacket.
not sure how 'at the BeBar' and 'free of posturing' can both be true. I might need to check this out.
Salt Lake is hardley that mormon. They are the minority in that crime ridden den of sin.
boondoggle-
i will recommend going early in the eveneing of the event.
I do remember there was a serious shift around 10. and strangely by the stage was much cooler. the people by the door to the street were obviously there to be seen. So, i stand corrected. there was some posturing by folks, but not people there for the event. at least that's how it came across to me.
