The Weekly Feed: Everything Must Go Edition

20080125-weeklyfeed.JPGAs of yet, we haven’t heard of any last minute reprieves for Dr. Dremo’s, which plans to close its doors in the early hours Sunday morning. So come 2 a.m, you’re done downing your last ale in your favorite chair or stool next to that weird kitschy decoration you’ve always liked. But you can come back one last time, on Monday night at 7 p.m., for a chance to take your own piece of Dr. Dremo’s home with you. On the auction block are 12 pool tables, kitchen equipment, general restaurant supplies, 200-gallon stainless steel beer tanks and even the totem pole. “Most of this stuff is going in the dumpster if no one buys it," manager Bill Stewart told Washingtonian. The bar’s beer tap handles, copper-topped tables, and original brewing tanks are among the few things that are not for sale.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, another D.C. fixture will also be closing its doors, but only temporarily. After seven years at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel, Corduroy will be moving to its new location at 122 9th street NW in early March. Starting January 27 and running until its last day, January 31, they will be having their “liquid liquidation.” Although their food menu will be drastically reduced, if not eliminated altogether, there will be “special” deals on wine, beer and spirits in preparation for the big move. “Bring your friends and help drink me [Tom Power] out of the Four Points.”

Small Bites
Un-Cork already!
The much awaited opening of Cork is nearly here. The new wine bar on 14th street will be opening January 29. Cork is described as a modern wine bar, pouring a wide range of European vintages that pair up with small plates of New American fare. Take note though, according to Zagat’s D.C. blog, only one of their long list of offerings will come from within the U.S.

In other openings, Old Arlington Grill is now open inside the Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse, specializing in “old-fashioned American grill classics” with a twist on “an urban bar setting.” Meanwhile in the Brightwood neighborhood, Meridian at 5832 Georgia Ave. will begin serving its Southern, Caribbean, and Creole fusion dishes this weekend.

The never-ending Restaurant Week
In addition to the many local D.C. restaurants with extended Restaurant Week deals, Bethesda’s own version of the culinary holiday will begin January 28. Setting themselves apart, they will offer a $12, 2-course lunch in addition to the $30, 3-course dinner.

2 guys made over
The guys over at DC Food Blog unveiled their brand new redesign over the weekend. Not just another pretty website, they now have a “Mega Search” for pulling through 21 local food blogs and another search for recipes. Congrats, guys!
