Tonya Bell, the woman who crashed her car into a crowd at the UNIFEST street festival in June after a crack cocaine binge, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Bell injured almost 50 people, many of them seriously, at the annual soul-food festival held by the Union Temple Baptist Church along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE in Anacostia.
Bell, of Oxon Hill, had faced 15 to 25 years after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors, and so was sentenced today to the maximum prison term. Ten victims spoke today at the sentencing hearing in D.C. Superior Court to describe their injuries.

That's nice, but it makes the 1 year (?) that the drugged metro driver got for killing two pedestrians seem all the more insulting.
Six months per person? That's a pretty sweet deal. She'll be out before she's fifty with good behavior and she can sell her life story to United Artists. Robert Downey Junior can play her in the bio pic.
TLB: You're referring to the Penn. Ave. incident? I'm pretty sure that driver passed the drug test (Post article on the sentence says nothing about drugs or booze).
Keep in mind the irony that Tonya Bell had been a secretary in Marion Barry's office.
Politburo - oh ok. Maybe I assumed from the video that a sober person would have, at some point, noticed they ran over two people?
OPKAC: Councilman Barry would tell you that Ms. Bell was a contract employee, but others in his office -- including his illustrious Communication Director -- are also on contract. It's a way of spreading around the largess.
Right, because remember if you're a full-time DC Govt staffer, you're more apt to embezzle millions of dollars than run anyone down while on crack.
And...somehow it all starts to make sense. Must be time for me to move.
