Romney Quits Presidential Race at CPAC

2008_0207_romney.jpgMitt Romney suspended his presidential campaign while in Washington today to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on Calvert St. NW.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney told the crowd at CPAC. It's nice to know that the former Massachusetts governor is dropping out of the race to save us from terrorists, and not because his campaign never really got off the ground.

The annual conservative gathering at CPAC probably needed the extra spice this year, since Ann Coulter is apparently only serving on one measly panel, giving her far too few opportunities to say totally insane shit. CPAC continues through the weekend at the Omni Shoreham.

What's next for Mitt? The Politico says Romney intends to run again in four years. Mike Huckabee, who fared surprisingly well on Super Tuesday, told the New York Times that he hoped Romney’s conservative supporters would back his campaign.

wow, what a douche. let me get this straight, he's dropping out to ostensibly aid the republican party win the election, but he intends to run again in 2012? that means one of two things:

1) he expects mccain to win, and is going to try to split the party in 2012 because he thinks mccain will have done a shitty job and won't deserve a second term.

2) he's going to run in 2012 because he fully expects to be running against an incumbent president obama or president clinton.

either way, it's all about willard....what a tool.

The conservative base of the Republican party couldn't make up its mind and basically got what they deserved which is the one candidate they all hate, McCain.

Supporting Romney on Monday before Super Tuesday was idiotic. McCain had the race won after the Florida win.

No, no, no. He's dropping out of the race because there's a war going on and he doesn't want to distract attention from that war. See - Mitt's totally being patriotic! And his sons are totally being patriotic by supporting his campaign, rather than enlisting.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win," the statement says. "And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."

To quote Jon Stewart: "F+ck you!"

Romney's sons cornered him and said "Stop wasting our inheritance on your stupid campaign!"

GET OUTTA HERE, you flipflopping slick-haired Mormon.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!

(PS MS, what will happen in November is that millions of Repugs will hold their nose & push the McCain ballot button. They did that for Chimpy Bush in 2000, he did not have big support thru the entire party, he LOST the popular general election vote!)
