Hey Sport! Election Week Edition

SlapshotIt's time for the weekly DCist sports roundup, the games we think you should check out.

TUESDAY
Hopefully you'll be voting, as today is a bit of a sports dead zone. If you happen to get Connecticut Public Television (who doesn't!?) you can see the Georgetown women's hoops team face off against #2 UConn. The Hoyas are 13-9 and 3-6 in the Big East, so this would be a huge win.

WEDNESDAY
There's a lot of good away games (Wiz vs Clippers, Caps vs Thrashers, Terps vs. #3 Duke, GMU vs. Towson, GW vs. SLU, #14 GW women vs. UMass) but the only home game in our area is Patriot League-leading American versus Bucknell. The Eagles are 14-10 and 6-3 in conference, with their best shot to make the NCAAs in years, and Bucknell is not far behind at 5-4 in conference. The Tenleytowners are on a three game winning streak, having beaten Lafayette, Lehigh, and Holy Cross, and look to make it four. Bender Arena is a nice stadium and Garrison Carr is a nasty shooter (17.9 points, 4.1 threes on 45% shooting per game). Tip off is at 7:30 p.m.

THURSDAY
The #4 Maryland Terrapin women have been rolling over the competition, going 25-2 and 9-1 in the strong ACC, their only conference loss to #3 UNC. The Terps are 5-2 against ranked teams (their only other loss was to #5 Rutgers). They face Boston College on Thursday at the Comcast Center, where they recently topped Virginia by 6. With four players scoring at least 14 points per game, the Terps have a hydra of an offense, and should be a great game. Tip off is at 7.

FRIDAY
It's an away game for the Caps as they face division rivals Florida, but it is on TV (CSN). Florida is led by Olli Jokinnen, who leads the team is goals and assists, and he got one of each when he last faced Washington. The Caps got two goals from Viktor Kolzov that game, along with four assists from Niklas Backstrom. Prospect Eric Fehr is with the team and is due for his first goal, so maybe it'll be in the swamp. The Panthers lost left wing Richard Zednik to a horrific injury, his throat getting accidentally slashed by a teammate's skate. Zednik is in stable condition if a hospital in Buffalo.

SATURDAY
Gary Williams' Terps had been having a mediocre season early on, but with March approaching they've been hot lately, winning 10 of their last 12, good for third in the ACC — doesn't that seem to happen every year? Point guard "General" Greivis Vasquez tied a school record with 15 assists against NC State last Saturday, and he'll try to match that this Saturday against Florida State. Greivis is still the Terps' leading scorer at 16.9, but James Gist is getting close, especially with 30 against the Wolfpack. The Seminoles have a balanced offense, with five players scoring in double figures, so it should be interesting. Tip off is at 3 p.m.

SUNDAY
Not too much going on locally, but Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison both made the NBA All Star team. They won't be starting for the east but should get some time in the defensively challenged game. The game is at 8 p.m. on TNT.
