Major Red, Blue and Orange Line Delays Again this Weekend
Another holiday weekend, another total mess on Metro revolving around fixing the sagging platforms at Metro Center. WMATA is alerting customers to add an additional 30 minutes of travel time to every trip on the Red, Blue and Orange lines this weekend due to the Metro Center platform work.
As you may recall from the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, this means all Red line trains will share one track between the Farragut North and Judiciary Square stations, and all Blue and Orange line trains will share one track between the Farragut West and Smithsonian stations. Translation: you'll be standing around waiting for a good long time.
The work and altered schedule begins tonight at 10 p.m., and lasts through Monday, February 18 at midnight. Metro is strongly encouraging customers to build in lots of extra travel time, or to take alternate transportation. Also note that due to the Presidents' Day holiday on Monday, Metro will be operating on a modified Saturday holiday schedule that day, opening at 5 a.m. and closing at midnight. Metrobuses will operate on a normal weekday schedule.

Metro Delays no longer surprise me. However, that is a cool Metro station shot you have for this post.

42 bus, how I love you.
Note to DCist Editors: Please tell us when there WON'T be weekend delays. Now THAT'S news.

i thought we had something special
hey, at least they're fixing the sagging platform before it falls down and people get hurt.
I really do understand that the recent fair increase was not instituted to off-set an increase an service...however, what Metro fails to understand is that raising fares while decreasing service does decrease value.....why should I sweat it out in a metro station to get to old town when I can just drive and be there in 15 minutes from downtown DC? It just isn't worth the hastle.
Well, you can't just demand great service and stuff that doesn't break on one hand, and then get mad when they have to cut service temporarily in order to fix things on the other.
Why even pretend Metro is usable at all on the weekends?
