Reader, Meet Author

A Fraction of the WholeTUESDAY:
Australian author Steve Toltz will be at Olsson's in Dupont Circle to read from and sign copies of his debut book, A Fraction of the Whole — the story of a son recollecting the outrageous and shocking events that led up to his father's death. 7 p.m.

Speech may be free, but presenting your ideas and arguments in an effective manner takes a little bit of training. Louise Dunlap, a lecturer at Tufts University Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning and a member of the Cambridge Peace Commission, will be at Busboys and Poets in D.C. to discuss and sign copies of her new book, Undoing the Silence: Six Tools for Social Change Writing. 6 p.m.

Samantha Power, who won a Pulitzer Prize for A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide, will be at Politics and Prose to discuss her latest, Chasing the Flame, which is about the life and death of international diplomat Sergio Vieira de Mello. 7 p.m.

WEDNESDAY:
Award-winning author Mira Kamdar, a 2008 Bernard Schwartz Fellow at the Asia Society in New York and a Senior Fellow at the World Policy Institute, will be at the Penn Quarter Olsson's to discuss her latest work, Planet India: The Turbulent Rise of the Largest Democracy and the Future of Our World. 7 p.m.

Doctor, writer and all-around guru Deepak Chopra will be at Politics and Prose to talk about Jesus, his teachings and what they mean for the mind and body — the subject of his latest book, The Third Jesus. 7 p.m.

THURSDAY:
Alex Witchel, author and a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine, will make an appearance at Politics and Prose to talk about her newest novel, The Spare Wife — the story of a beautiful, rich widow who is taken into many households as a spare. We don't know how that works, but we're guessing it doesn't work well. 7 p.m.

FRIDAY:
Can't get enough of The Tipping Point and Freakonomics ? Dan Ariely, a professor of behavioral economics at MIT, will be at Politics and Prose to talk about his contribution to the field of statistically significant events with Predictably Irrational. 7 p.m.

Best-selling author Michael Palmer will be at the Olsson's in Dupont Circle to talk about his new novel, The First Patient. 7 p.m.
