Motel>> Forget Us3 or Digable Planets, if you want to check out a true blend of jazz and hip-hop, head over to the Bossa Bistro and Lounge this Sunday to hear Motel (pictured), the intersection of D.C. hip-hop with original New York jazz. >> Inspired by duo collaborations such as Gerry Mulligan with Bob Brookmeyer and J. J. Johnson with Kai Winding, the Jen Krupa-Leigh Pilzner Quintet features trombonist Krupa and saxophonist Pilzner as they team up Tuesday night at Blues Alley. Their group, which includes pianist Tony Nalker, bassist Tommy Cecil, and drummer Tom Williams, will perform a single 10 p.m. set. Tickets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

Don't forget! Kahil El'Zabar's Ethnic Heritage Ensemble is doing two 35-year celebration shows at Chief Ike's, Monday and Tuesday (25th and 26th), sponsored as always by Transparent Productions.

They've played in DC every winter since at least 1999 but this one should be special.
