Virgin Fest Returning to Pimlico

Virgin Mobile FestIt's official. Virgin Fest, now renamed the Virgin Mobile Festival to apparently attract the mutant cell phone/music market, is coming back to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on August 9 and 10. In the past, DCist has been there to blog the festivities, so it's a given we'll be providing the latest news as it comes in.

Once again, area concert promoters I.M.P. (the folks behind the 9:30 Club and other major area venues) are putting on the festival. “Last year was an amazing experience for the fans and we’re planning a killer show this year that will top it,” I.M.P. Chairman Seth Hurwitz said in a statement. “The entire line-up will be must-see acts.”

Last year's festival was held on the same weekend as Lollapalooza in Chicago -- which also brought a fair amount of overlap in bands between the two fests. This year we're sharing scheduling with "Coachella East" -- aka the All Points West festival in New Jersey. They've released their lineup already, including not one but two nights of Radiohead. That leaves us to play the "Who is playing Virgin Mobile Fest this year?" game. We know. That's a terrible name for a game. Previous years have brought us the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Who, The Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, The Raconteurs, Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A, Spoon, Wolfmother and Amy Winehouse. Who do you think we'll see in Pimlico this summer?

The Post speculated that the Foo Fighters would headline one night. I never thought of them as all that popular, but maybe I'm just not paying enough attention.

I'm hoping for an even more elusive 'head than Radiohead, Portishead.

LED ZEPPELIN! LED ZEPPELIN! LED ZEPPELIN!

I know, it's not going to happen. I can dream about a real headliner, can't I?

lots of curse words. i am out of town. but i heard ratm is playing. more curses.

With music in its current state, Foo Fighters are one of the few bands that can create buzz.
