About Tonight

2008_0225_glasses%282%29.jpg

READING: Formerly anonymous Imperial Hubris author and ex-CIA officer Michael Scheuer is at Politics and Prose to talk about his latest effort at describing the current state of American foreign policy, Marching Toward Hell. 7 p.m.

CLASSICAL: Flutist James Galway will play a recital with his wife, Jeanne Galway, sponsored by Washington Performing Arts Society in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. The program includes two masterful flute sonatas of the 20th century, by Poulenc and Prokofiev, as well as Chaminade's Concertino, beloved of flutists everywhere. 8 p.m., $40 to $85.

MUSIC: Louisville's excellent up and coming alt-rockers Wax Fang are at DC9 with ambient locals Perfect Souvenir. $8, 9 p.m.

MOVIE: It's absurd to think that any film adaptation of Franz Kafka's unfinished novel, The Castle, could actually capture the texture of the author's work, but Austrian director Michael Haneke's 1995 film is at the very least excessively faithful to the text and, naturally, considering it's Haneke, appropriately weird and disturbing. Follow the story of K., the land surveyor who is never to be admitted to the Castle, at the Goethe-Institut of Washington at 6:30 p.m., part of the Michael Haneke: A Cinema of Provocation series co-sponsored by the Goethe-Institut, the Embassy of France and the Austrian Embassy.

MUSIC: John Foster, aka Sad Crocodile, hosts his monthly local music showcase tonight at Galaxy Hut. Tonight's guests are Austin and Marian from Private Eleanor. 9 p.m., $5 suggested donation.
