Two Big Movies Shooting in D.C.

2008_0311_uptowntheater.jpgThe pretty people are descending upon our city. A couple big movie shoots are in town, so if you're into that sort of thing, now's your chance for an Affleck or LaBeouf sighting.

State of Play, an adaptation of a BBC miniseries starring Russell Crow and Ben Affleck, has been shooting for a couple of days around Capitol Hill. This movie made headlines in the fall when Brad Pitt dropped out due to an inability to get the rewrite he wanted thanks to the writer's strike. Perhaps you remember the hubbub that arose in the Washington Post newsroom when Pitt dropped by to do some research into his former character. Sadly, we don't have any reason to believe that Brad, Angelina or any of their 30 or so children are around town now -- but not so sadly for Crowe and Affleck fans.

Eagle Eye, starring Shia LaBeouf and Billy Bob Thornton, is also shooting somewhere in our midst as we speak. IMDB describes that one as the story of "a young slacker and a single mom [who] get tangled up in a terrorist cell plotting a political assassination."

We also learned while digging around for details that there's an entire blog, Shot In Washington, dedicated to TV and movies shooting in and around D.C. Let us know if you see anybody exciting for non-political reasons around town. For some reason, whenever famous people are in town, we hear about them dining at Cafe Milano, so that might be a good place to start if you're on the prowl.

Oh man, THE BEEF is in town!

Near the end of the month they will be filming at my condo building!!! Your loss, Brad.

it'd be cooler if the cast of the BBC version were in town...i love me some James McAvoy.

Did someone say James McAvoy??

Meow!

This past Sunday night in Chinatown after seeing a movie at E street, a friend and I saw 3 cop cars stopping traffic for a truck pulling a car around set up for filming.

On their second loop around the Portrait Gallery, I caught a glimpse of Affleck in the back of the car. My first and really only thought was, 'wow he's got a big noggin.'

was it a green car? I saw the same thing last week as they rolled by the Justice Dept.

Also, the celebs like the Capital Grille by the Newseum. Last year Reese Witherspoon and Peter Sarsgard sat right next to me. She looks weird in person...talk about a noggin.

One of the films wreaked some havoc on playgoers at the Folger Saturday afternoon. They didn't notify the Folger and some theatergoers' cars parked around East Capitol St just east of the Capitol were towed. An MPD officer had to help them track down their cars.

Yeah Eagle Eye was filming on New Jersey Ave SE last night. Shia was there and I caught some of it on my point and shoot camera.

The Arlington Alert I received on the 7th:
Between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on March 8th and 9th, 2008, a
helicopter will be flying in and around the Pentagon Reservation for
movie filming. DRM/oem

The bird is "crow." The actor, Russell, is "Crowe."

Unit 2 of "State of Play" was shooting outside the Chinese Embassy on Connecticut Ave. yesterday at 7 PM.
