With Easter coming up and lots of people leaving town, there are still a surprising number of concerts on the schedule. If you are sticking around, a free concert especially could be just the thing to do with your free time.

LIVING LEGEND:
>> Without question, the major event of the week, and probably the entire season, is the farewell concert of Alfred Brendel (pictured) tomorrow night (March 17, 8 p.m.), sponsored by Washington Performing Arts Society in the Music Center at Strathmore. It has been sold out for a while, but you may at least be able to hear the legendary Austrian pianist speak about his long career, in an interview-conversation on Tuesday (March 18, 6:30 p.m.) at the Austrian Embassy. No tickets will be sold at the door, so buy your ticket in advance.

THE FREE KIND:
>> The Freer Gallery of Art hosts its second Musicians from Marlboro concert on Tuesday (March 18, 7:30 p.m.). Young performers from the Marlboro Festival will give a free concert, including Elliott Carter's oboe quartet. You can get your free ticket either in advance through Ticketmaster or at the door, starting one hour before the concert.

>> The female vocal quartet Tapestry will give a free lunchtime concert on Wednesday (March 19, 12:10 p.m.) at the National Gallery of Art (West Building lecture hall). The program, offered in honor of Women's History Month, will feature music by McAllister, Moody, Rachmaninoff, and van Ness.

>> Pianist Yuliya Gorenman will give a free recital on Easter Sunday afternoon (March 23, 4 p.m.) at the Phillips Collection, which is not free.

>> The Harvard Glee Club will also give a free concert on Easter Sunday (March 23, 4 p.m.), including music composed for its 150th anniversary, at the National Gallery of Art. Note that both the location (East Building auditorium) and the time (4 p.m.) are unusual for the series.

WORTH MENTION:
>> WPAS is also presenting another recital this week. On Tuesday (March 18, 7:30 p.m.) violinist Sergey Khachatryan and pianist Lusine Khachatryan, his sister, will play a concert at Sidney Harman Hall. Tickets: $29.
