Go Home Already: You're So Not Listening

>> An overwhelming demand for swimming lessons at Montgomery County pools leads parents to queue up before the crack of dawn to secure a spot for their kids. [Montgomery Gazette]
>> "I'm talking to A and her boyfriend as I'm getting into my car and BAM something with the speed and force of a baseball being thrown at me hits me in the arm. I look down and it's a giant fucking rock. not a pebble. not a stone. a rock as big as my fist. no joke." [DC Casualty]
>> A young woman starts a Facebook group outing her recent ex-boyfriend as a liar and a cheat. "He went on an exotic vacation with an ex, lied about it, reunited with the current girlfriend and then posted pics of the steamy trip (clear water, bikini, frolicking) on, you guessed it, Facebook." Alright our first rock throwing post of the year....Spring must be around the corner...Before we know it, fireworks post will fly like sparks in the July air.
Surely that poor pidgeon merely became petrified and lost its sense of direction.
The story behind the Facebook story...
Facebook reporting is a dangerous game. It pretty much eliminates any attempt to obscure source names. A mere cursory Facebook search (use the bits of language she posted verbatim) reveals not only the group and its members - a bit more snooping also reveals that Angela is still Facebook friends with the ex in question!
For the haters here is the dirt you want:
"The ex" is a Georgetown faculty member
Better reporting would have kept this under wraps, and Angela's point that the whole sordid affair may be a lie is a good one - unfortunately it belays the fact that she blew the lid on the people involved. Advice to all: Always speak carefully with a reporter and never mention Facebook! Welcome to the future...you've been Searched!

half this list looks suspiciously like the list from yesterday's dc blogs noted.
@IMGoph: That's totally my mistake. On the rare occasions I do GHA, I gather a bunch of potential links and then pick 5 or 6 to include in the post. I didn't intend to copy that many from DCBlogs. Of 6 items, only 2 were from there; that's not half, it's a third. :)
true, fredo. sorry if i came across as accusatory. i need to step away from the computer, it's going to be a shitstorm day at work and i don't want to lash out at anyone... :)
thank you ICDC for taking the time to go there...
a bit more snooping also reveals that Angela is still Facebook friends with the ex in question!
The "bit more snooping" in question would be largely unnecessary were you to read the first six words of the article: "A young woman I’m acquainted with".
You can argue that Facebook reporting is inherently trivial, but to say that Angela Valdez has an undisclosed conflict of interest here is a bit of a reach.
And now the only question is whether all of this guy's students already know about this whole sordid episode, or if it will take until tomorrow morning for the story and the links to have percolated throughout the G'town campus . . .
ICDC, don't forget that this is also the person who thought LNS was worthy of a front-cover feature article in the City Paper ... I don't know that journalistic judgment is exactly her strong suit.
@ICDC and with a little extra googling you can find his picture when he was a grad student at the University of Minnesota. I won't link to it. Because I don't think that's necessary. But the Google, she ties it all together, no?
