Eels Frontman Invites President to D.C. Show

EelsEels singer/songwriter Mark Oliver Everett (aka. E) is extending an olive branch, of sorts, to President Bush, who according to Everett has blasted the band's music in the past as "a bad example for the kids of America."

In a letter to the president dated March 10, Everett invites the president and first lady to come to the band's March 29 show at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, adding, "if you come to the show, I would be happy to give you complimentary copies of our brand new best of and rarities CDs ... (which feature some of the very tracks your campaign used as bad examples for our country's youth)."

Everett is referring to the band's 2000 album, Daisies of the Galaxy, which features a song titled "It's A Motherf#&!@r". The song helped earn the album a parental advisory sticker (sample lyric: "It's a motherf**ker/Being here without you/Thinking 'bout the good times/Thinkin 'bout the bad"). The band released a remixed version of the song titled "It's a Monster Trucker" to poke fun at the parental advisory warning.

In the March 10th letter, Everett writes, "Mr. President, I know that you're a Christian, and Christ taught forgiveness. So in the spirit of forgiveness and fence-mending, I'd like to let bygones be bygones and invite you and the First Lady to attend our Washington, D.C. concert, March 29th. It's right down the road from you at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue." Everett adds that if Bush is more comfortable at a "different house of worship," they'll be playing at churches in Philadelphia and New Haven. "In the name of tolerance, we are trying to represent many faiths on this tour," he adds.

While it's doubtful the president will accept E's offer, there shouldn't be anything holding you back. Tickets for the show are $25, and the show starts at 8 p.m.

see y'all there. i bought my ticket a few weeks ago!

Eels in a Synagogue? I don't think eels are kosher. Good, though. jellied, smoked, or stewed.

These eels seem pretty stewed, judging by the picture and post.

wow, the eels
can you be more irrelevant than the eels?
no. no you can not.

I read the letter E wrote and I thought it was pretty cool the way he tried to deal with the President on his own terms. I'm no fan of the President, but I truly appreciate it when guys like E or Bono show the maturity and good sense to be respectful to people in power, especially when it's as sincere as E seemed to be. Unfortunately I'll be in NYC on the 29th but I'm definitely going to make a point of checking out the Eels music now.
