Um. The White House Easter Bunnies Are Terrifying

BushandEasterBunny.jpgAP Photo/Ron Edmonds

Behold the male version of the White House Easter bunny, pictured here with President Bush this morning at the annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn. Can you imagine being a 5 year-old kid and having that thing coming at you? Free Ride has a photo of the female bunny, which it accurately describes as "hallucinogenic-looking." Granted, virtually all giant plush costumes could make any child cry, and we all know white rabbits are tough to pull off without making most of us think of drugs, but wow. That is one scary looking bunny.

UPDATE: The first fruits of the Post's resurrected D.C. Wire blog are in: they've snagged a photo of Ward 5 D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr. in his own Easter Bunny costume. It's decidedly less trippy, but still further proof that this bunny gig is a tough one to pull off.

I know someone who interned at the White House and had to be on of the Easter Bunnies once. Trust me, the bunnies are more afraid of the children than the children are afraid of the bunnies. Hundreds of little children dressed in their Sunday best hopped up on sugar, running full-speed at you...terrifying.

Great Caesar's Mescaline-Munching Ghost, I'm passing rainbow spirit-vomit through the molecules of my mind! That's one satanic Pooka! Mommy, I can see baby-heads in that cosmic rat-god's MOUTH! OH the HUMANITY...!

George in Wonderland:

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"

it's pretty damn striking in that picture just how freakin' OLD bush has gotten in the last 8 years

Yep. Like father, like son.

Is it too much to ask that these bunny costumes at least attempt an accurate representation of stigmata?

thats the best picture of bush i have ever seen!

Wait a sec...is that Bush's new homeland security advisor????

Bush Fills Key Posts In Homeland Security

That is one scary rabbit. But who is the dude in the glasses behind him?

Donnie Darko! Donnie Darko!

Reminds me of seeing Clinton. I think all presidents age a crap load.

The presidency is a stressful job. Although I have to say I never expected Bush to take it seriously enough to get stressed out about it.

Has anyone ever seen the Easter Bunny and Dick Cheney in the same room together?

It's Bush's Pooka! Yikes:

Harvey and I sit in the bars... have a drink or two... play the juke box. And soon the faces of all the other people they turn toward mine and they smile. And they're saying, "We don't know your name, mister, but you're a very nice fella." Harvey and I warm ourselves in all these golden moments. We've entered as strangers - soon we have friends. And they come over... and they sit with us... and they drink with us... and they talk to us. They tell about the big terrible things they've done and the big wonderful things they'll do. Their hopes, and their regrets, and their loves, and their hates. All very large, because nobody ever brings anything small into a bar. And then I introduce them to Harvey... and he's bigger and grander than anything they offer me. And when they leave, they leave impressed. The same people seldom come back; but that's envy, my dear. There's a little bit of envy in the best of us.

Both of those creatures look like arrogant sickos...
