MUSIC: Tickets are still available for West-coast skate rat turned Jack Johnson disciple Matt Costa, so get 'em while they're hot. At the 9:30 Club with local son Johnathan Rice, $15, 7:30 p.m.

BOOKS: New Yorker and the New York Times Magazine illustrator Adrian Tomine will be at Politics and Prose to talk about his graphic novel Shortcomings, as well as present a slideshow that confronts his critics who have accused him of hiding his racial identity in his comics. 7 p.m. Read our interview with Tomine here.

MUSIC: It was only a few weeks ago that Emily King performed in the District. The Grammy-nominated guitarist/singer/songwriter will be performing an acoustic set featuring music from her debut album, East Side Story, at Bohemian Caverns. She’ll be joined by singer/songwriter Peter Hadar. 8 p.m., $12 in advance/$15 at the door.

FILM: The William G. McGowan Theatre at the National Archives is screening the Ted Leonsis-produced film Nanking, an archival retelling of the atrocities in the 1937 Japanese attack on the Chinese city, which our reviewer called "a film that everyone should see." 7 p.m., free.

ART: In celebration of Women's History Month, the DC Women in the Arts group opens an exhibition of 18 local female artists at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library with an opening reception tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor West Lobby.

MUSIC: A regular at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge, local vocalist Heidi Martin is scaling up to Blues Alley tonight. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge. The music starts at 9:30 p.m.
