Registration for Bike to Work Day Now Open

2008_0310_biketoworkday.jpgIt's a little chilly yet to start dressing like spring is already here, but with this weekend's switch to Daylight Saving Time, it's at least starting to feel like the season is on the verge of being here. And with warmer weather, those of us who are too wimpy to ride our bicycles in the freezing cold (read: me) will once again strap on our helmets and take to the streets. We can't think of a better way to recommit yourself to the biking life than by signing up for Bike to Work Day. Registration for the annual event is now open, via the Washington Area Bicyclist Association web site.

For those who have never participated before, Bike to Work Day is a free event that's open to all area commuters. You register by picking your most convenient pit stop, which this year include 26 locations across the metro area where you'll have access to breakfast, entertainment, speeches from local politicos and chances to win bicycles and other prizes. The idea behind the event is to encourage more people to find out how easy it is to ride a bike to work at least some of the time.

Bike to Work Day is scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2008 this year. Head over here to register.

Might _what_ explain the cops? The fact that online registration is now available?

time for a holier-than-thou moment:

every day is bike to work day for me, and i don't have a problem with biking in 25 degree weather.

it can NEVER be as bad here as biking in the winter in michigan. never.

"every day is bike to work day for me, and i don't have a problem with biking in 25 degree weather."

so lets just be glad that you can apparently get breakfast for it for a change?

yes. arlington is big on the green. maybe they were starting the party.

there's only one 'station' in DC - Freedom Plaza. Guess you dont get anything for biking to work if you go to Capitol Hill or Farragut or Dupont or anywhere else for that matter.

yeah, thewrongballoon, i'm not going out of my way for a free bagel or whatever they're handing out.
