DCist Presents: Unbuckled 7!

The (far too long) wait is over. After our sixth Unbuckled show, featuring Le Loup and The XYZ Affair that tested the integrity of DC9's second floor, we needed a little break. Well, we're sufficiently rested and ready to bring you the goods yet again. As you've all probably noticed, we've expanded our musical coverage some in the last year. With the talents of Sriram Gopal and W Jacarl Melton, DCist has been able to cover a lot more than indie rock. They put their heads together and came up with an amazing bill for Unbuckled 7. So without further ado, the details!

Clear your calendars and prepare to join us on April 24 for Unbuckled 7 at DC9. The unparalleled talents of Muhsinah (***), Motel and DJ v:shal kanwar will be on display. Doors are at 9 p.m. and tickets are $8. Unbuckled is always a hell of a party, so we can't wait to see you all there! After the jump, we've got descriptions of all of the acts so you can get an idea of what we have in store.

Muhsinah: If you mashed the elements of '70s psychedelic rock with Alice Coltrane's Indian inspired jazz musings and top it off with drum patterns reminiscent of the late, great J. Dilla and you might come close to describing the sound of Muhsinah's music. However disparate the sources for her inspiration might seem from one another, she layers them together so well that her compositions always provide a great listening experience. The Duke Ellington and Howard grad has garnered the praise of uber-tastemaker Benji B of BBC Radio 1Xtra and recently released day.break 2.0.

Motel: Very few groups combine hip-hop and jazz without favoring one genre over the other. Lucky for us in the District, Motel is such a group. A collective of musicians lead by bassist Matt Grason, Motel features a rotating cast of D.C.'s best MCs alongside some of the city's best young jazz musicians. Their debut album, Lost and Found is a must for fans of the local music scene. Anyone wanting to get a taste of their live performance can watch their recent show at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage online.

DJ v:shal kanwar: DJ v:shal kanwar is at the forefront of D.C.'s global electronica scene, where he spins regularly around town and holds court every Wednesday night at Science Club. Most recently, v:shal launched Electroganic, a monthly event at Bohemian Caverns that debuted in March.

Enticed? Intrigued? Want to step away from your computer and interact with us DCist types in real life? All this and more awaits you on April 24 at DC9.

i'm neither enticed nor intrigued, to be completely honest.

Strong! I got Muhsinah's album off of eMusic after DCist first mentioned her, it's different and kind of interesting.
