What is the Yahoo! Map ruling on North Cleveland Park? Does it exist? Is Burleith swallowed up by Georgetown? Even the slightest possibility of Penn Quarter inching north of F Street NW could signal big trouble. We could be entering into a new cartographic crisis!

Given my avatar, it is hardly a surprise that my favorite Bangalore Royal Challenger is Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Sadly, the IPL won't get much coverage here in the states no matter how many NFL cheerleaders are involved.

What's this "stone" background on the main page and parchment paper unrolling behind the DCist logo? Are these part of a DC Insider ad?

mike, you'll be happy to know that north cleveland park does in fact exist (in yahoo!'s world, at least). i'm sure it's swallowed up a few neighborhoods itself, but i'm no expert on what's west of the park.

now that you're up in NYC, you have hundreds of new neighborhoods to work on learning...

Gosh Dcist, how much did you sell your soul for on this ad?

So, I was doing some additional spotchecks for neighborhoods. Some more problems: On certain views, they point to Cleveland Park as existing where Rock Creek Park is south of Woodley Park; Mount Pleasant does not exist ... it is now Columbia Heights. And they've discovered a new neighborhood! "Southwest Employment Area." Note to Yahoo: I'm available for geographic consulting.

yeah advertising a place called washington.org on the dcist.com, that's totally soulless... How much can I sell my soul for? Oh wait, that's right I don't think I have one...

yeah, i have no problem with dcist pimping DC. toyotas, on the other hand....

I don't care who dcist pimps for, as long as they don't use flash ads that inexplicably require more processing power than finding the factors of semiprimes.

It's ineffective marketing on Destination DC's part anyway. The purpose of the organization is to promote the city as a global destination for tourists, visitors and conventions.

Given that most people who read this site are from DC, it's silly to think that it would be effective.

Oh, and IMGoph, the map is beyond words. They list Cardozo all over the place on that map, and there isn't a Cardozo neighborhood in DC, let alone way over by McMillan Reservoir or 9th & Sherman.

North Cleveland Park? Us CPers refer to that area as Van Ness....

Big L, apparently, I'm going to have to change my screen name to "drew in kalorama heights"

So there's no such thing as Adams Morgan anymore?

I had no idea I was living in Kalorama Heights now.

What ad? does anybody not use firefox/adblocker nowadays?

So, you run a super crappy club that has a long history of violence, to the point that finally the city is forced to shut you down.

And your reward? A kajillion dollar lottery contract.

Nice work, DC.

Dupont now extends all the way to the White House. And Foggy Bottom has been kicked out by GW and the West End. Interesting developments.

Navy Yard is "Near Southeast?" Nearer than what? Boise? WhereTF is Southeast Southeast?

Why do I get the impression that Yahoo farmed this job out to a sub-sub-subcontractor in the suburbs of Bangalore? Or an out-of-work cartographer who's recovering from head trauma?

What ad? does anybody not use firefox/adblocker nowadays?

Smittydc, the banner ads on the site. Top of the page, and then again in between the post and the comments.

"What ad? does anybody not use firefox/adblocker nowadays?"

Many people do not. For instance, some people understand that ad revenue is what keeps sites like this free to all users. I generally don't mind ads, so long as they're not grinding my system to a halt.

@BigL: Not to resurrect a debate that started two years ago on DCist, but before the Red Line went through Upper Northwest, Van Ness was just a street, not a Metro-centric neighborhood identity. There was once and there still is a North Cleveland Park, despite revisionist newcomers to Cleveland Park and elsewhere might claim.

Wow...the neighborhood I've lived in for 22 years has been labeled "Hawthorne", which I've never heard of. And I'm pretty sure North Postal Estates is a typo since the neighborhood is named after the two Portal streets.

'Tis true. "Van Ness" is technically North Cleveland Park on the west side of CT ave and Forest Hills to the east. We CPers still like to call it Van Ness, though. It so gets under their skin.

Thanks Crosstown, and mgrass I take it you live in Van Ness?

It is strange how Glover Park and parts of Cleveland Park have been swallowed up by some place called Cathedral Heights.

And as for Burleith: Yes, I know that historically it is a neighborhood, but I've lived here for a long time and have NEVER heard anyone refer to that neighborhood as Burleith. It's either "Georgetown" or "Glover Park" to almost everybody.

@BigL: No, I live in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, and more recently Woodley Park, D.C. But my family's been in the District since the 1860s. The house that Kinkead's restaurant is in at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW is where my grandfather grew up. In Foggy Bottom, though way back in the day, parts of it were called Hamburgh.

HCE: not to start another fight between us (sorry about yesterday, let's not ramp things up to that level again), i have a friend who lives in burleith, and he and his roommates call the place "the burleith house", so there are at least 3 nerds there who are keeping the name alive. of course, they're geographers, so they're probably predisposed to stuff like that.

Mg,

Thats pretty damn impressive. Fun fact, I worked at Kinkeads for 2yrs! That is pretty crazy.

IMGoph: No worries. My question has long been, how is Burleith pronounced? I don't believe I've ever heard anyone speak the word.
