Pope Benedict XVI Arrives in U.S.

Pope Benedict XVI arrived at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at about 4:11 p.m. for his first papal visit to the United States. President Bush greeted the pontiff on a red carpet on the tarmac in front of thousands of people who gathered to catch a glimpse of the Catholic leader.
While still on his plane, "Shepherd One," Benedict told members of the press that he is "deeply ashamed" of the Catholic church's clergy sexual abuse scandal.
Remember, tomorrow's first popemobile ride and viewing along Pennsylvania Ave. is scheduled to begin outside the White House at noon, and travel past Washington Circle before heading north on Rock Creek Parkway. Later in the day, at 5:15 p.m., he'll also travel by popemobile from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops headquarters at 3211 Fourth St. NE along Fourth St. to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. You can expect traffic shenanigans all day long.

I wish he would have kicked W in the nuts on behalf of the American people. Speaking of which, would he have gotten arrested? I wonder if the Pope is somehow internationally immune to legal discipline.

Notice how in all the pictures W, Laura and Jenna are like 15 feet away from the Pope while greeting him? Like, Laura's purposefully trying to say as far away as possible?
Laura's just afraid of being struck down by lightning. Her being Protestant and all.

Since I'm a product of the 80's, I can't look at a red shoe without thinking of the scene in 16 Candles, where Grandpa Baker is describing the missing Long Duck Dong, including his "red loafers," and responds to the voice on the other end by saying "No, he's not retarded."
Btw, since when did the term Popemobile become the official name of the Papal Vehicle? I thought that started as a joke?
