This Week In Hip-Hop

>> London's Estelle is already well regarded in the U.K.'s urban music scene and recently made her first foray into the U.S. market with her album, Shine. With her stateside label boss, John Legend, serving as the evening's host as well as a performer, she'll make her D.C. debut at Zanzibar. $15 in advance, 8 p.m.

WEDNESDAY:
>> The multi-talented Wes Felton has been a fixture on the D.C. soul scene for a while, and his talents have been utilized by the likes of Prince Paul. He'll be at Bohemian Caverns as a part of the Rhythm and Soul series. $10, 8 p.m.

FRIDAY:
>> Dutch-born producer Nicolay (pictured) first made a name for himself after producing an album completely over the internet with Little Brother's Phonte for a group they called Foreign Exchange. Now he's teamed up with another MC, Houston's Kay, for a new release titled Time:Line. They’ll be at the Black Cat along with two D.C. acts: Panacea and Unbuckled 7 headliner, Muhsinah. $15, 9 p.m.

SATURDAY:
>> Musician, poet and activist are just some of the words to describe Gil Scott-Heron. His body of work over nearly 40 years is credited as being a forerunner to acts such as Public Enemy with songs like “The Bottle” and “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.” He’ll be at the 9:30 Club for a special seated show. $30, 7 p.m.

>> Over the course of the roughly 15 years Common has been recording music, he's evolved from fast-paced rhymer to laid back ladies' man. He and DJ Clue will be helping Georgetown students close out their semester at the University's McDonough Gymnasum. Tickets are reportedly in short supply. $5 for Georgetown students and alumni/$20 for the general public, 9 p.m.

SUNDAY:
>> Out of all the Green Apple Festivals taking place across the country this day, D.C. has the best lineup. The Roots, Doug E. Fresh, Ne-Yo, Talib Kweli, will.i.am, Chrisette Michele, and D.C.'s own Thievery Corporation are all slated to perform on the National Mall to commemorate Earth Day. Free, 12 p.m.

>> To cap off the Earth Day festivities, The Roots’ drummer, ?uestlove, will be performing a DJ set at Liv along with Unbuckled 7 performer v:shal kanwar. $15 in advance, 10 p.m.
