About Tonight

2008_0417_tonight.jpg

ART: The newly renovated Ippaku-tei teahouse at the Embassy of Japan will host its first art exhibition with artist Shinji Turner-Yamamoto's installation, Three Windows: Sun, Moon, Star, organized by the Japanese Information & Culture Center. The piece was actually created in 1960 to celebrate relations between Japan and the United States, and was just brought to the Embassy from Kyoto. Go see the three rooms of the exhibit (along with their Japanese garden) at the reception tonight from 6 to 7 p.m. 7 to 9 p.m., and we're hearing it is now sold-out.

JAZZ: Cellist Dana Leong blew us away last fall at Duke Fest with his blend of acoustic and electronic sounds. He returns to D.C. tonight at 7:15 p.m. to perform at the National Geographic's Rhythm Road concert series. N'awlins jazzer Devin Phillips performs at 6 p.m. Free.

MUSIC: Tally Hall's show tonight at DC9 is a must-see. The Ann Arbor, Michigan rock outfit just re-released a touched-up version of their album, Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum on April 1, and will be sharing the stage tonight with The Republic Tigers.$12, 8:30 p.m.

VARIETY: The Bears on the Run 2008 tour, sponsored by gay cable channel Logo, stops by Remington's on Pennsylvania Avenue. Five bear-identified performers including Kendall, Bobaloo, Elijah Black, Matthew Temple and Shannon Grady comprise the lineup. Tickets available online for $12.50. 8 p.m.

FOOD & DRINK: Skip the sliders at Thursday's happy hour and head over to Biagio Fine Chocolate instead to pre-game your dinner with some dessert. Biagio and Capital Hill chocolatier Jane Morris will be on hand for a complimentary tasting of J. Chocolatier's filled chocolate collection. New spring offerings include lavender-cranberry, strawberry-mint, and lime-coconut. Be forewarned, these tastings fill up quickly, so get there early to guarantee a full selection of sampling options. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Free.
