Photo of the Day: April 17, 2008

According to Flickr user Isabel Wang, this is a 26 hour-old lamb hanging out at the farmer's market between Dupont and Georgetown last weekend. The little thing was abandoned by its mother, who gave birth to twins, so the farmers carry him around everywhere and bottle feed him. I had no idea these veggie markets were also impromptu petting zoos on occasion; a nice little surprise for us city folk, yeah?

yum
Cute little guy, makes me want to tuck him into a nice, warm pita with some yogurt sauce.
Very cute - I knew it was going to be the photo of the day!
The trick is to stab dozens of little holes and fill them with a mix of chopped garlic and mint. Or stick a spring onion in and trim the excess. Makes the lamb look like it's got a green Mr. Ray hairweave, but keeps your dinner from drying out. Also, LOTS of good olive oil. There's nothing that a lot of good olive oil can't improve. Aw, yeah.
guess you shouldn't post pictures of animals around lunchtime, the carnivores around here get restless.
Hmm, I smell new DCist default avatar!
But what are those odd yellow ear restraints for?
they look like ID tags
I'm confused, where is there a farmer's market between Dupont and Georgetown? Is that the Rose Park farmer's market? I guess I'd just call that "in Georgetown".
I'm guessing that this is referring to the farmer's market around 20th and Mass, which is strictly Dupont. The Rose Park "market" is on Wednesdays, not the weekend, and fyi, three tents selling assorted vegetables does not a farmer's market make.
Photo info says it was taken yesterday.. dunno how "weekend" got into the intro.
Bah-ram-ewe biotches!
they don't allow dogs any more at the Dupont (Sunday) market so I doubt the lamb would be welcome (something to do with the health department)
Awww....that thing is gonna be a tasty gyro one day.
Man, I thought I was the only lamb eater around here. Good to see the carnivores out in force.
I dunno . . . from the straight hair and the coloring that lamb looks an awful lot like a goat to me.
