MetroPerforms! Auditions Return

2008_0422_metroperforms.jpgMetroPerforms!, the city's solution to the perceived scourge of subway busking, is once again seeking District of Columbia-based performers for a second year of the program, which hires local singers, dancers, musicians, poets and other performers to show off their talents at select Metro station entrances. Auditions will take place on May 2 and May 3 at Metro headquarters.

Currently, auditions are only for those who want to perform in D.C. stations. Metro and the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities will select performers from the auditions, with the advice of other local arts councils. Last year the pilot program only featured performances at D.C. and Maryland stations, but as details become available Metro will release audition information for areas outside D.C., which will hopefully include Arlington stations too.

Hundreds of artists auditioned last spring, and you can check out one of the dancing groups that won a performance spot here. This year's auditions take place Friday, May 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Metro headquarters, located at 600 5th Street NW.

please, what do we have to do to get "monkeyrotica, the insult/poop joke comic" signed up as a performer?

just think of the possibilities!

This is why I listen to my iPod

Congratulations - you're going to Holly....

I mean a metro station.

Hi. I work for a foreign newspaper, and we're interested in writing about some activity young people like to do in D.C. Does anyone have suggestions? I've heard about kickball, for example...

Aren't the Kickball-Jazzercise All-Stars auditioning for Metro?

lorenzo: to quote a friend, "fo' real?!?"

Thank you, DC, for over-regulating and bureaucratizing another joy of city life.

There are some a capella singers who have been on the lower level of Metro Center recently - I hope they audition. They're pretty good, and I worry that they are going to get the boot from the Metro cops. Plus I don't think the tourists tip that well.

Oh it is all fun and games unless you work in an office building above a metro station. I wish my windows opened so I could throw things. There are only so many times I can hear "Girl from Impanema" in one day.

I've got my organ grinder, fez, and the Complete Lyrics of Steely Dan! Send me in, coach! I don't need any headgear!
