This Week In Hip-Hop

>> Dallas native Geno Young is no stranger to D.C., having spent time here as a Howard student. His talents have led to a role producing and songwriting for Erykah Badu, among other artists. He’ll be at Bohemian Caverns for two shows along with local soul star Wayna, as a part of the Rhythm and Soul series. $15, 8 and 10 p.m.

THURSDAY:
>> DCist loves to highlight local artists and now’s the time to put a new spin on an old tradition. Unbuckled 7 will feature three acts: Muhsinah (*** and pictured), Motel and DJ v:shal kanwar. These performers are incredibly unique in their musical offerings and their talents will be on full display at DC9. $8, 9 p.m.

>> DJ Spinna’s last appearance in town was for the memorable Wonder-Full party. This time around he’ll be at Jin for a special set sure to feature a selection of house and hip-hop that helps distinguish him as one of the world’s most versatile DJs and producers. Free, 9 p.m.

FRIDAY:
>> Beatdown 8 is a continuation of the monthly beatmaker series. This edition will take place at Five and feature New Jersey-based producer Illmind as well as King Magnetic and Doap Nixon of the Army of the Pharaohs clan. $15, 8 p.m.

>> Some groups don’t need any introduction, and the Wu-Tang Clan is one of them. Shaolin’s Finest will be at Love for their show. $20, 9 p.m.

SATURDAY:
>> In celebration of South Africa Freedom Day, Oakland songstress Goapele, whose father fled South African apartheid, will be performing at Zanzibar along with South Africa’s Mahala and Sierra Leonean rapper Daddy Saj. $28 in advance/$30 at the door, 9 p.m.

>> DJ Doc Rok and AutoRock specialize in mash-ups and highlighting the points where multiple musical genres that seem dynamic opposites come together, Venn diagram style. They’ll be at the Rock and Roll Hotel for the Mass Appeal event. Free, 9:30 p.m.

MONDAY:
>> In conjunction with the Dafur Now tour, Wale, Asheru, DJ YZO and Mastamind DJ will be performing at Five. Free but donations are suggested, 11 p.m.

Does anyone know the location of where photo was taken? I recognize the place as being over by Rhode Island, but it's probably not.

 

Yeah, it's around that Rhode Island/LeDroit Park area not too far south of Howard Hospital, if I remember correctly.

i'll pay attention on the bike ride home tonight, but that picture sure looks like it's on t street near the ledroit market (4th and t)...

 

nope, not where i thought....now i really need to look for this house!
