Virgin Mobile Fest Announces Full Line-Up

Ah, summer festival season. In years past, those of us in the D.C./Baltimore region had to either consider an expensive trip to a faraway locale or jealously eye the lineups of Coachella, Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, Intonation, Pitchfork, Bumbershoot and countless other fests, hoping that the festival gods would someday smile upon our little patch of the Mid-Atlantic. Luckily, that all changed with the introduction of Virgin Fest in 2006 (now known as the Virgin Mobile Festival) and since then, the folks at Virgin and I.M.P. have worked to outdo themselves with each year’s lineup.

Well, judging by the looks of it, they’ve done it yet again. This year’s schedule aims to have a little something for everyone and very nearly lives up to I.M.P. Chairman Seth Hurwitz’s claim that “The entire line-up will be must-see acts.” For example, if you consider yourself a fan of the classics, you’ll be pleased to hear that Bob Dylan, Iggy & The Stooges and Chuck Berry have all been added to the bill. If you’re a time traveler who recently joined us from the year 1995, you’ll feel right at home, what with the Offspring, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails and a recently-reunited Stone Temple Pilots on the schedule. Indie rock fans, as usual, will also be well-served, with Wilco, Cat Power, The Go! Team, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Andrew Bird (who will be reuniting with the Bowl of Fire, if the press release is to be believed)* all signed-up. This year brings some big names on the hip-hop and electronic fronts as well, including Kanye West (sans spaceship, we assume), Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Underworld, Erol Alkan, Chromeo and Moby. There’s even a shout-out to the D.C. scene in the form of a long-awaited Shudder To Think reunion. And finally, just because it wouldn’t be a corporate-sponsored summer music festival without him… Jack Johnson.

As we’ve mentioned before, it all goes down August 9 and 10, at the Pimlico racecourse in Baltimore. Tickets go on sale May 3 at 10 a.m., with a two-day pass running $175. Check out the full line-up below and let us know if it’s worth your hard-earned cash in the comments.

Saturday Main Stage Acts: Bloc Party, Cat Power, Chuck Berry and The Silver Beats, Citizen Cope, Duffy, Foo Fighters, Gogol Bordello, Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, Lupe Fiasco, The Offspring, Paramore, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Swell Season and Wilco.

Sunday Main Stage Acts: Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bob Dylan, The Go! Team, Iggy & The Stooges, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Nine Inch Nails, She & Him, Shudder to Think, Stone Temple Pilots and Taking Back Sunday.

Saturday Dance Tent Acts: DJ Dan & Donald Glaude, Erol Alkan, Ferry Corsten, Soul Wax, Steve Lawler and Underworld.

Sunday Dance Tent Acts: Armin van Buuren, Chromeo, Deadmau5, Moby (DJ Set), Pendulum and Richie Hawtin.

Updated to clarify dance tent schedule

*Unfortunately, it turns out that this was just a misprint on the press release.

Half of those "Saturday Dance Tent Acts" you have listed there are actually "Sunday Dance Tent Acts" - including my favorites Chromeo!

Meh.

Though Bob Dylan & the Stooges I'd pay good money to see.

Given the fact that Velvet Revolver just kicked Scott Weiland to the curb for being a lousy team player, and he already caused STP to break up once before due to his issues, does anyone else think this tour is incredibly likely to end in a spectacular flame-out and tragedy?

Shirow Masamune once said anything that tries to do everything, does nothing well. I think that goes double for festivals.

Lil' Wayne and Bob Dylan ... same stage, same day.

Seeing Andrew Bird get back into swing and the old school stuff he does best would be priceless, as well as Kanye just being himself. Also, I am ashamed to say I am a little excited to see NIN.

175 bucks for tickets... Dang, it's expensive being a kid these days.

looks like sunday it is

Rodrigo y Gabriela are fantastic, but nearly 100 USD (for only half of the thing no less) is not cheap.

And finally, just because it wouldn’t be a corporate-sponsored summer music festival without him… Jack Johnson.

that really made me smile!

$175...that's like two pairs of J.J. Casuals!

Maybe instead of buying tickets, I'll kick it old school and walk around outside Pimlico with a finger in the air saying "I need a miracle."

Did anyone on here to go this festival last year? Thoughts?

i went the first year. organized a whole bus of friends up there. didnt do it last year.

i'll be going saturday this time.

get there early, have lots of water, and dont miss the sideshow tents, they are half the fun!

voteprime: yeah, i went both of the last two years. i liked it better in '06 when it was in september, the weather was less stifling.

pretty wide gap between acts last year (seeing the police was great, the smashing pumpkins were teh suck).

gogol bordello is going to be worth the price of a ticket. damn, they're amazing.

IMGoph: Yeah, but Gogol will probably play the Cat again for like $13

Here's where I play grumpy old man and say "remember when tickets for the first Lollapalooza were $20?"

Seriously though, if there are a bunch of bands you like playing, the argument can be made you're getting your money's worth. But still too rich for my blood.

Damn, if only Shudder To Think would do their reunion someplace like the 930 Club and not Shitlico racecource.

I went last year for the first time and I must say I was pretty impressed. It was just a really well run festival and I will likely go to this one as I'm a big fan of a lot of bands on that lineup.

Little things that impressed me:

-Abundance of water
-Always a good place to relax if there is nothing on stage you want to see at that moment
-Parking was easy, cheap, and close by
-Grounds were cleaned very well and prepped for the second day
