Virginia Storm Leaves Destruction Behind
AP Photo/Steve Helber
By some miracle, so far no fatalities have been reported in the wake of three tornadoes and other violent storm activity in southeastern Virginia, with the worst of the damage having happened in Suffolk, Va., just under 200 miles from Washington. Dozens of photos of the destruction of homes and businesses are being posted online. The Suffolk News-Harold has a photo gallery up, and photos on Flickr tagged with suffolk offer plenty more.
As many as 200 people are estimated to have been injured. Va. Gov. Tim Kaine said this morning that about 145 homes were "damaged very severely" in Suffolk. Looking for a way to help? You can always give money to the Red Cross or find a nearby blood donation center.

dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
and still nobody was killed is amazing...
I can just imagine what the two guys in the lower right corner are discussing.
"It's like, I was in the basement watching Jenna Jameson and then I hear this WHAM!"
"Yeah, that rug really tied the room together, did it not?"
Holy shit. Those Flickr pictures are unreal. Thoughts & prayers to anyone affected.
I would love to donate blood, but due to policies established and maintained by homophobic f*cks, like the kind who are a majority in the VA government, it would be an act of blood terrorism for me to do so-someone might catch my gay cooties.
people in suffolk definitely don't want your gay cooties.
but seriously, this is tough to look at. thank goodness there haven't been any fatalities.
Did Pat Robertson pray these tornadoes away from Virginia Beach? If so, can the people in Suffolk sue him?
And are his "Tornado Relocation Prayer Powers" getting weaker? The last one he prayed away hit Charleston.
Rev. Pat only prays away hurricanes, not tornadoes (since hurricanes are a more visible and predictable threat to his home in Va Beach).
Ha ha, nice to see those GHG producing McMansions get clobbered by the results of their own creation.
/nonsensical liberal rant
I think God and his only lamb son Jeebus must have been a little drunk, and instead of "Virginia" he saw the name of a female body part so he smote the state to teach it a lesson.
The photos remind me of my visit to Oklahoma City in mid-1999 right after a monster F-5 tornado hit. The damage was simply astounding.
But what was equally mind-numbing was the total randomness of it - one house was completely obliterated, the house next to it was missing its front, the house next to that one was fine, except for debris all over the place.
I think they need building supplies more than they need blood.
"But what was equally mind-numbing was the total randomness of it - one house was completely obliterated, the house next to it was missing its front, the house next to that one was fine, except for debris all over the place."
Wasn't that the sub-plot of Helen Hunt's character's angst in Twister??
I want to find one face, I want to spit in the face of these Badlands. You gotta live every day, let the broken hearts stand as the price you gotta pay. Keep pushing til it's understood and these Badlands start treating us good.
