Ice Creampocalypse: Day 2
Although we at DCist have no affiliation with any plastic surgeons' association, we can't help but bring news of today's annual 31-cent Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins, tonight from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. In cooperation with the National Fallen Firefighters Fund, The BR will once again shell out 2.5 oz. scoops of any flavor for anyone with three dimes and a penny. Note: there is a 10 scoop limit per person per purchase.
As was the case last year, a $100,000 donation with be made to the NFFF, an Emmitsburg, Maryland based organization that offers programs assisting the families of fallen firefighters and provides fire-safety information to consumers. In addition to giving to the National Foundation, some Baskin-Robbins locations will enable customers to donate to a local station as well.
Locations in D.C. can be found near the Woodley Park, Columbia Heights and Eastern Market Metros, the G.W. campus, and Dupont Circle - or use this handy tool. You still have room after yesterday's free cone day at B&J's, right?

Does anyone know if you can still get ice cream in a mini baseball helmet at Baskin-Robbins? They used to do this every summer, but I haven't seen it in awhile.
it's hard to pay 31 cents when I got it free yesterday....
flapjack: mighty spoiled today, aren't we? :)
i went twice yesterday, so it's twice as hard for me to pay 31 cents.
But 31 cents is such a small price to pay for Freedom! The freedom to have as many scoops as you want!*
* - but no more than 10
The handy tool was not so handy for me. It only found one location - 16th st just south of Florida. I live a block away and know there is no baskin robbins there. Can someone tell me where the dupont one is?
IMGoph: you know it! :) Although since I work for the fire department I suppose the least I could do is give 31 cents... all right, you've guilted me into it!
And those Ben & Jerry's free scoops yesterday weren't quite full sized, were they? After you waited in line how long? And they maybe ran out of your fave flavors?
I'm doing B&R tonight...
i found the B&J's in old town to be quite generous with the scoops...and the line moved pretty quickly! and they seemed to have all the flavors well-stocked.
egreenwa: were you looking at the star in the middle of their map? that's just supposed to show your location, i think. the little "BR" logos are meant to show the stores' locations (though they don't pop much, so they're harder to see).
i'm heading out to the one in hyattsville. look for the person with the big, dumb smile on their face...
Thanks IMGoph. I was told that the dupont location was on 17th st, but cannot find a logo on the map still, so here's to hoping!
Here is a picture of the 17th Street location. Does anybody recognize the location?
It's one block south of fox and hounds
I was in Baltimore this evening (I know, I know) and a very modest line ended up taking over 30 minutes to serve me. I just kept thinking, "Ben & Jerry's totally has their sh*t together."
I think it's because most B-R's now, including the one I went to, are combos with Dunkin Donuts. So we've got people dabbling in a little bit of everything rather than mastering just one product. You can't expect people to be experts in both scooping ice cream and handing out donuts.
Also, do not try the Penguin Swirl flavor. It's supposedly retired, but they haven't gotten the memo yet in Baltimore. Shame. I wasted 31 cents. And my tongue is black!
I remember when I worked at a Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts.. one time, we had to hand out a flyer with a certain blue flavor because it would turn your crap blue. The flyer was to inform customers that this wasn't anything to be concerned about..
Baskin-Robbins? Ben & Jerry's????
How pedestrian.
Try Dolcezza f/k/a Isee Icy on corner of Q and Wisconsin. Argentine gelato. Truly exotic flavors--mango, blood orange . . .PASSIONFRUIT!!!
You'll pay dearly but you won't be disappointed.
