Interior Design Showcase in Historic Home
A formidable two-story brick house stands in Georgetown; its exterior gives no hints as to what awaits inside. Once a school for boys in the 1840s, the historic home located at 3014 P St. NW was completely renovated and given over to 15 area interior designers to create the 2008 DC Design House, benefiting the Children's National Medical Center. The interior is a showcase of sophisticated design, style and luxury; perfect for the neighborhood.
Purchased by Skip and Debbie Singleton in 2007, the couple wanted to restore the home keeping the historic facade, but updating and completely gutting the interior to design a new modern floor plan. Interior designers from the D.C. area then set about decorating and designing the feel and layout of each room of the house, turning it into a showcase of modern interior design. The result is modern luxury that pays homage to its historic roots. Because of its past life as a boys school, the Singletons felt that a benefit for the Children's National Medical Center would be appropriate for the show house, with admission to the house being donated to the Center.
The new floor plan is very generous, providing for three floors complete with everything a modern family would want and or need for entertaining. The House comes complete with three full bedrooms, each with their own full bath, a kitchen, den, living room, dinning room and entertainment room, including back patio and deck. Each of the rooms are decorated to highlight their unique spaces and give a taste of what modern luxury is all about.
Many of the rooms' decorating schemes border on opulence and ooze over-the-top richness. The master bedroom and bath are key examples of this. The bed is surrounded with a canopy and covered in a spread that announces the owners' monogram. The bathroom boasts a soaking tub parallel to a rain shower-shower head stall, all intending to wow.
All the furnishings, accents and artwork found within the house are for sale, so if you fall in love with that mirror or the quirky sheep photograph in the dining room, you're in luck. The house itself can be purchased for a cool $4 million.

The DC Design House is open now through May 11. Located at 3014 P St NW, and is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. Admission is $20 and benefits the Children's National Medical Center.
