I went 10 days ago to the open houses May 3 - definitely worth your time. I visited 4 that were around Van Ness, and there are more open this weekend around there too. Plenty of free parking, lots of food samples, even wine & beer, also live music. My fave place was the Czech Embassy - we were even taken to the ambassador's private residentce for a tour. Nice way to see the inside of these lovely buildings that are not often open to the public except for paid reserved functions.

If you go this Sat. tho, go early as the lines to get inside grow longer every half-hour. It would bore little kids tho, so leave them home. Most places have Xray machines & metal detectors, so be aware...

The annual Goodwill Embassy Tour ~$35 usually features about 6-7 embassies & they get PACKED. I haven't been in years. This is FREE & a lot more embassies to choose from.

I've lived here for a while and I've never done the embassy tours. Does anyone have recommendations for the best ones to check out?
