WASA Rate Increase Looms, Public Meetings Scheduled

logo_wasa.gifSeveral neighborhood blogs are posting information about the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority's upcoming public meetings to discuss a proposed 8.5 percent rate increase to city water and sewer rates.

WASA is one of the city's most troubled agencies, having come under fire many times in recent years, notably for water pressure and communication problems that may have hampered firefighters during an apartment fire in Adams Morgan, elevated lead and toxic chlorine levels in the city's drinking water, and failing to maintain the District's fire hydrants.

A full list of scheduled meetings and public hearings on WASA's proposed rate increase is below the jump.

MONDAY, MAY 19 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Library
901 G Street NW

TUESDAY, MAY 20 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Washington Center for the Aging
2601 18th Street NE

TUESDAY, MAY 27 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Cleveland Park Library
3310 Connecticut Avenue NW

WEDNESDAY, MAY 28 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Southwest Neighborhood Library
900 Wesley Place SW

THURSDAY, MAY 29 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Anacostia Senior High School Auditorium
1601 16th Street SE

In addition, DC WASA is hosting public hearings on the proposed rate adjustments Wednesday, June 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Monday, June 23, 10 a.m.-noon at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments headquarters at 777 North Capitol Street NE.

Yesterday water was pouring from the sky and now we have to pay for it?

On the other hand, given the Morlock-CHUD alliance, an increase in sewer rates is entirely justified.

Sweet lord no! You can't drink water from the DC Resevoir, Ren. Beavers do their business in that water! If you drink it you could get beaver fever!

Perhaps with the rate increase, and all that extra cash, they could do something about the millions of gallons of untreated shit, toilet paper, puke, and unmentionable horrors which flows into the Potomac and Anacostia river every time it rains hard. Hm, that is prolly a good idea. If they could agree to that, then no complaints here. But since I know the horror movie like waste will keep hitting the rivers every spring, I will keep bitching.

The morlock/CHUD defense system designed by Lockheed-Martin and used extensively in Bulgaria is not included in their budget either.

How do I get me some of that beaver fever?

How do I get me some of that beaver fever?

I think you may be immune from "Beaver Fever."

It hink you may be immune from "Beaver Fever."

zing!
