Speaking of boiled crustaceans, Hungry For Music is doing their annual crawfish boil in Fort Hunt Park this Saturday. It's a cajun style boil, so BYOOB (bring your own Old Bay).

I'm biased cause I grew up going down there, but I always enjoy Watermans crab house in Rock Hall MD. A little bit of a drive across the bridge, but pretty reliable. Plus their outside deck and bar is sweet and they do live music and dancing.

SW is good. But if you ever get out to Deal Island, MD you can practically pick them fresh out of the pot. Jumbos are bigger and cheaper out that way too.

Oh no, he di'int! He talkin bout yo momma! He say yo momma don't use no Old Bay! Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn!

Sorry, Old Bay is way to salty for me. At the waterfront, they bury the crabs in it! For me, I use a mixture of lime juice mixed with salt and peppa as a dippin sauce.

Anyone ever have the courage (desparation?) to try the Dancing Crab up near Ft Reno? I've only ever been in the old Malt Shop. That place was divey. Made me sad when they moved into the nicer spot next door.

it is Dayton, not sure why I wrote Drayton...thanks wonderwazz

LegOfAhab - a lot of the crabs they serve around here are from NC/SC because of the limits on how many crabs can be harvested from the Bay. Besides NC/SC doesn't use enough (any!!) Old Bay, losers.

If you don't to cook 'em or drive to annapolis, you can go to the quarterdeck (http://www.qdrest.com/) - a dirty little place in Rosslyn. You can even call ahead and they will have them ready for you. I have only been there once, but it definately hit the spot. You might want to eat them up quickly though - i listened to Kojo Nnamdi's show today and it was all about the chesapeake's depleting suppy of those tasty little suckers.

Hate to say it, but NC/SC blue crabs are sweeter. (Let the flames begin!)

If you're in the District, you don't have much of a choice but the Waterfront. Parking during the weekends is the hardest part.

If you want to make the drive way out to Drayton, MD you can hit the Crossroad Pub. Hands down the best crabs in MD. Smothered in Old Bay, fresh hush puppies, cold beer...it doesn't get any better. Outdoor deck seating at picnic tables.

Maine Avenue can be hit or miss with the live crabs. Don't want to blow $70 for a bushel of dead crabs. Then again, four-out-of-five DC housewives can't tell the difference between Whizzo Butter and a dead crab. Elsewhere, I've had good luck at Asian/Latino markets like Super H, Grand Mart, etc.

That pic reminds me of the delightful volume by Claude Levi-Strauss. Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!
