Man Struck by Train at Wheaton Metro Station
WMATA is reporting that a man was struck by a train on the Red line at the Wheaton Metro station at 1:45 p.m. today. The six-car train was traveling in the direction of Glenmont.
There's no word yet on the man's condition or how he was hit by the train. Red line trains are sharing one track while police and emergency personnel investigate.
The Wheaton station is still open, but trains are sharing one track between Glenmont and Forest Glen. Metro says it has begun operating shuttle bus service between the stations to supplement rail service.
WMATA is estimating regular rail service will resume by 3:30 p.m., so the single-tracking should be cleared up before the evening commute. Still, as with any Metro accident, don't be surprised to find residual delays on the Red line this evening.
UPDATE 3:43 p.m. Metro reports normal service resumed on the Red line at 3:38 p.m. The man who was struck has been taken to the hospital, and it looks like it may have been a suicide attempt.

Oh come on, man, Wheaton's not that bad. And if you really want to commit suicide in Wheaton, find the liquor store with the most Salvadoran guys hanging around out front, walk up to one of them, and tell him you've tasted his madre's pupusas, and they're horrible. Pupusa=vagina, I think.
In all seriousness, does Metro ever disclose how these things happen? Because I don't understand how these things usually happen - drunk? pushed? legit jumper?
...I'm kinda compelled to ask what the difference is between "drunk" and "legit jumper"; kinda sounds like you don't consider suicide to really be suicide if there's alcohol involved.
I love it: "I mean, any pussy can suicide when they're wasted. A real man kills himself while stone-cold sober. ::beats chest::" (Not being a dick, this is actual amusement)
