Water Main Break on 16th Street NW

2008_0523_watermain2.jpg

A water main break is disrupting traffic on 16th Street NW between Florida Ave. and Euclid Street. D.C. Water and Sewer Authority workers are on the scene working on the break.

Only one lane is getting by northbound past the workers at this time. If you need to head north of U Street NW in the area, take 15th Street instead.

We're waiting to hear back from WASA, but initial reports indicate low water pressure in the affected area, encompassing the blocks lying between 17th Street and Crescent Place NW, 16th Street and Florida Ave. NW, and 16th Street and Belmont Street NW.

The traffic backup wasn't too bad 15 minutes ago, and Metrobus's S lines were still running relatively on time. We'll update if we hear the work will continue through the rush hour.

UPDATE: Reader Kellie writes in to say her place, which is right across the street from the water main break, has been without water at all since this morning.

UPDATE II: WASA reports that the water main break has been repaired, and that water service should now be restored. 16th Street NW has been reopened between Euclid and Florida Ave.

People say it is decaying infrastructure, but I know that the C.H.U.D. are just pissed. Perhaps the rat poison in Tenleytown is really making the C.H.U.D. angry at us. This is their way of acting out.

More evidence of the growing Morlock menace.

Didn't they replace this water main last spring or summer? I used to live a couple of blocks north on 16th, and I distinctly remember that entire block torn up for some time as they did work on the water. There was even a mini-flood in the street at one point, if I recall correctly.

Um so your saying they did a shitty job? Maybe left one of their Pabst cans in the pipe weld? No way- this is DCWASA we are talking about, they are way too competent for that.
