Lmaoooooo at 225 million for a team in a league that hasn't solidfied itself...unbelievable...
How much more money is the government going to waste subsidizing the recreational choices of heterosexual men?
as much as it takes to keep you from having any recreational choices, sumergocognito...
The Hillary dolls are kind of scary.
Just ordered my new Medic Alert bracelet: Do Not Take Me to United Medical Center!
Before you guys go off the handle about public money for the stadium, realize that what the Post published is inconsistant from what MacFarlane/DC United has been proposing. The money requested, which is NOT $225 million, is for infrastructure (utilities, roads, etc) which will be needed to when they (Clark) develops Poplar Point even if a stadium doesn't go in.
Clark should be investigated for being a monopoly.
please DC Council, don't build a new stadium for soccer fans who spray beer all over the place. let them do that in shitty ol' RFK. they deserve that place, not a new stadium.
The Hillary dolls are kind of scary.
Understatement of the Year. Right up there with, "Hitler was kind of an a**hole."

Really? From Wikipedia:
"Considered the most successful club in American soccer, the club has won the U.S. Open Cup and holds the record for most MLS Cups and MLS Supporters' Shields with four apiece. Furthermore, D.C. United is the only club to be awarded the MLS Supporters' Shield back-to-back (2006 and 2007) and the first club to win back-to-back MLS Cups (1996 and 1997). In 1998 D.C. United became the first American club to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup and the Copa Interamericana, defeating Club Toluca of Mexico 1-0 and Vasco da Gama of Brazil on 2-1 aggregate.
But I agree with McGillicuddy: RFK is plenty fine for United. The beer tossing mayhem (Barra Brava, I'm looking at you!!!) notwithstanding, it's really the El Salvdorans tossing ziplok bags of piss from the upper balcony that gives the experience its charm. What better setting to let your hair down and slum like that than RFK?
I mean, where else you gonna get e-coli or hepatitis just for attending a match?!?!?! It's not like they've got russian roulette matches (with accompanying brain/blood splatter) like in The Deer Hunter anywhere around here. (Then again, I haven't been out to the Eden Center in quite some time, so I'll have to make a field trip.) But in the meantime, let's agree that a United Game is as edgy as you can get in this otherwise buttondowned hamlet.

DC United: "A one-eyed man in the land of the blind"
sorry, g lover park, but citing wikipedia is just not the best way to go when looking for facts to back you up. i could go in and edit that article right now to read the exact opposite of what you said...
More importantly, it doesn't address the point that Zippy was trying to make, which is that the league hasn't solidified itself yet. The Washington Freedom was doing relatively okay when the whole WUSA women's soccer league up and closed up shop. The NASL died an ignominious death in the early '80s. The CBA nearly went bankrupt and shut down just a few years ago.
If the MLS does go belly up in three or four years, what exactly would DC do with an arena specifically designed to be a soccer stadium? Are there provisions in the Poplar Point deal that also include leveling RFK, because we definitely won't need both . . .
Actually IMGoph as soon as you alter it, if it isnt locked and you have editing rights, an alert goes out to wiki they check the change and will let it stay if correct or delete it if incorrect. Also most universities now accept Wiki as a source.
