The Weekly Feed: Soup's On Edition
Dish of the Week: Surprise soup
Where: Corduroy
Surprise soup, because upon calling Corduroy today, the person who answered the phone said the menu will be a surprise. Because, oh yeah, tonight is Corduroy's Friends and Family Night. We all know what that means... the new Corduroy (on 9th Street NW, across from the Convention Center) will be opening this week, and you can now make reservations by phone. This was after a swirl of rumors about the opening date, as everyone seems to want to be the first to spread the news. The current menu will be three courses for $45 with about five items to choose from for each course.
The soups at Corduroy are some of the restaurant's most popular items. Made from rich ingredients like lobster and duck stock, they still capture the essence of the primary ingredients, whether it's sweet corn, parsnips or other beautiful little things. The dedication to local and seasonal ingredients are what keep people coming back. And I am sure there are lots of people antsy to get their soft shell crabs for the season.

Cart Bermuda Triangle?
It seems that the gyro cart on 15th and M has already picked up and either moved or disappeared. There seems to be something about the area that makes carts disappear like some Bermuda Triangle. There was a Korean BBQ cart on Vermont and L (there is another at 14th and L) that disappeared after a week or two.
More than Bourbon
Bill Thomas and the brains behind Bourbon will be opening up Breadsoda, hopefully at some point in mid-May, in the old My Bakery spot. The menu will be casual fare that includes sandwiches along with beer and wine. The site will have a bakery, pool tables, shuffleboard and other games. The place will also feature six HDTVs for watching sports. From the sound of it, Breadsoda is shaping up to be like Buffalo Billiards, only with a stronger focus on booze and food.
Odds and Ends
Tackle Box, the new joint from the folks at Hook, opened up quietly earlier this week. Emulating the seafood shacks of New England, this looks to be a welcome addition to Georgetown - and a score for sustainability lovers.
Bloggy Punk's Backyard Grill canceled plans to open in Bethesda, and have decided to open their first shop in Annapolis.
