Ted Kennedy's Surgery Deemed a Success

2008_0602_kennedy.jpgFirst: Good news from Duke, where Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) underwent what his doctors are calling "successful" surgery today on a malignant brain tumor. While the initial announcement of Kennedy's condition and potential treatment a couple of weeks ago did not include surgery as a likely option for the 76-year-old senator, Kennedy went forward with the aggressive procedure this morning. It has yet to be revealed exactly how much of the tumor surgeons were able to remove from Kennedy's brain, but surgery of this kind is meant to improve a patient's chances to have successful radiation treatment. A Kennedy family spokesperson told reporters that the senator was doing well, even telling his wife shortly after that he felt "like a million bucks."

Second: Isn't the graphic accompanying the Washington Post story on Kennedy's surgery kind of ... specific? They couldn't have just shown us a human brain without placing it inside Ted's head?

UPDATE: The graphic design Posties have since changed the image to just be a gray silhouette of the shape of Kennedy's head instead of an actual photo of the senator's noggin. It's much less creepy now.

not to mention inaccurate. shouldn't there be a permanent thought bubble attached that says "where are drinks after the hearing" or something? sorry. rude.

he kind of looks like bill clinton from that angle. in the face i mean.

i don't think it's too specific...i was worried when i clicked on that link that the post was going to show something like a head cut open to show me where they'd be operating during the surgery...

He send he he "felt 'like a million bucks.'" Well, he oughtta know...

I agree. This image is too specific.

What I want to see is his liver. I'm surprised it hasn't run away by this point.

Does anyone know what a WET BRAIN looks like?

Ahh DCist and thier hidden jokes. The headline should really read.

"Speaking of whisky, Ted Kennedy's brain is less cancery".

I don't really agree with his politics, but I wish him well. I hope he overcomes this and lives many more years.

I thought the graphic designer did a tasteful job with that infographic. The article is about a specific person, the artist had access to his silhouette, so why not use a 25% tint on the silhouette behind the medical illustration? Hm? I say, golf clap; huzzah to the designer!

Here's hoping they got paid at least $60 for it anyway.
