    This Week In Hip-Hop

    >> Kicking off the Live! on Woodrow Wilson Plaza series, renowned reggae act Third World will be performing their hits, like "Now That We Found Love". Free, 12 p.m.

    >> With his "The Broken Vibes EP", Taylor McFerrin has carved his own niche on the broken beat scene, as well as in his own family's musical legacy. The Brooklyn-based artist will be at Bohemian Caverns along with Ne'a Posey for two shows. $12 in advance/$15 at the door, 8 and 10 p.m.

    Thursday:
    >> A girl called Jack and a guy named Brook form L.A. electro act J*DaVeY (pictured). Their EP and video a few years back set a creative precedent and helped build a strong base of supporters. Their show will take place at Bohemian Caverns. $15 in advance, 7 p.m.

    >> Representing the Oakland hip-hop scene to the fullest, Blackalicious are largly noted for Gift of Gab's verbal agility. Their show will be at the State Theatre in Falls Church. $20, 7 p.m.

    Saturday:
    >> This week marks the 16th Annual Capital Jazz Fest at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. Slated to perform on this day are Carl Thomas, Loose Ends and Roberta Flack, among others. $45.50-$160, 12 p.m.

    >> Back once again at the Rock and Roll Hotel's Hotel Bar is the Disco City party featuring the DJs Chris Burns and Maxmillion Dunbar playing Larry Levan hits along with other classic dance tunes. Free, 9:30 p.m.

    >> Philly's renowned DJ/producer Vikter Duplaix and L.A.'s DJ Rashida will be providing the sounds at Liv as a part of the traveling "Kiss-n-Grind" party. Free with RSVP, 10 p.m.

    Sunday:
    >> Sunday is the final day of the Capital Jazz Fest. Acts slated to perform include Eric Roberson, Average White Band and Ledisi. $45.50-$160, 12 p.m.

    >> Chicago's The Cool Kids rate high on the swagger meter. The duo met on the internet and have been on the grind ever since. Their Black Cat show will also feature Black Water and Che Grand. $15 in advance/$18, 8 p.m.

    Anyone seen Cool Kids do a full set before? I saw them open for someone in the fall, and they were good. Can they carry a whole show?

     

    I haven't seen them live but I read a review of a set they did at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and it was positive. That was likely a 45 minute set, though.

    FYI...Sunday there will be a pre-party for The Cool Kids' show at 903 N Street NW a.k.a. "The Space" at 3 p.m. If you're on Facebook, you should be able to look it up.
