The Weekly Feed: Ice Cold Edition
Dish of the Week: Frozen yogurt
With the crazy heat, the line at Tangysweet should be long with their free promotion today. If you can't make it to the brand new Dupont frozen yogurt shop, we've got a couple of alternatives for you.
Sweetgreen in Georgetown, City Market (bodega on the SW corner of 17th and M Streets NW), and Ice Berry in Reston Town Center all sell the Korean-style frozen yogurt with fruit toppings. And if you're a big fan of Haribo gummis, be sure to check out City Market's selection.
For those who are seeking the less tart versions that are closer to ice cream (or a bit of nostalgia) there are still a few TCBYs in the area. The nearest to the city is in Arlington at the Lincoln Towers Blimpie. For a list of other locations you can try out TCBY's store locator. I fondly remember the hot days of my childhood with a chocolate frozen yogurt topped with Heath bars in hand.
If you're looking for some other sweet treats this weekend, we love the ice cream at Max's in Glover Park (2416 Wisconsin Avenue) or Dolcezza's seasonal gelato flavors at the Dupont farmers' market.
Small Bites
Hopefully it won't melt...
Former Citronelle pastry chef Niel Piferoen is set to open Locolat this weekend. The shop will sell handmade Belgian chocolates and waffles. I'm particularly keen to try the chunky looking truffles, which look utterly decadent. [via Daily Candy]
Double your flavor
City Paper is starting a new promotion on June 12, selling $50 gift certificates to local restaurants for just $25. Here's to hoping that it's not the same, mostly iffy list on Restaurant.com
Mmm... characuterie
Not long ago we were reporting that Chef Jamie Stachowski's Restaurant Kolumbia was closing due to renovations to its leased building. Chef Stachowski has now popped up in North Arlington at Thirsty Bernie. On the menu is his famous kielbasa, smoky pastrami, and other delicious meat products. Many other favorites from the Restaurant Kolumbia are also on the menu, but now in a more relaxed sports bar atmosphere. [via Don Rockwell]
Lend a helping hand
Food & Friends, a nonprofit that provides food to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging diseases, is sponsoring a Chef's Best Dinner and Auction on June 16 at the Washington Hilton. The roster of chefs includes numerous local faves such as Patrick O'Connell from the Inn at Little Washington and R.J. Cooper of Vidalia. Tickets are $250.

Radio stations are giving out those $50 for $25 deals too, I imagine they are being given out everywhere. I think local restaurants are fearing that this recession is going to hit them hard.
Thank you for NOT posting pics of Restaurant Kolumbia's charcuterie. I made the mistake of attending a bris before lunch and I've still not recovered.
Am I the only one who thinks Locolat is a bit too close to Lolcat?
O HAI. CAN I HAZ CHOKKIT TRUFFLE? HOW MUCH? F.U.
