About Tonight

READING: Andre Dubus III, author of House of Sand and Fog, will make an appearance at Politics and Prose to talk about his latest novel, The Garden of Last Days. 7 p.m.
MUSIC: Jazz-funksters Mocean Worker delivered a strong, albeit under-attended, set last year at the 9:30 Club. Tonight, the group hits the Eighteenth Street Lounge.
MOVIE: Fred Sears's classic alien invasion movie, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, features scenes set right around the National Mall, which should make tonight's free screening at the Hirshhorn's Summer Camp Film Series extra fun. 7 p.m.
MUSIC: British record-spinner-cum-soul singer Jamie Lidell is at the 9:30 Club. With Jennifer O'Connor. $15, 7:30 p.m.
MUSIC: Take a stroll through Farragut Square Park on your way home to catch a free live performance from Maryland soul/R&B outfit The Kelly Bell Band. Part of the Sounds in the Square series, 5 p.m.

Another music option for tonight: Check out Joppa at The Red and the Black at 9pm. They bring a soulful, bluesy rock with major funk and even some hip-hop influence. Kindof like Isaac Hayes meets Talking Heads, with some Chili Peppers, early Beastie Boys, and a little Hendrix. You can check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/joppamusic
Or just take my word that they always bring the party to keep the crowd moving with their high-energy live-shows.
