Morning Roundup: More of the Same Edition
Good morning, Washington. Metro has posted an announcement on its web site to let passengers know that they managed to replace the "kinked" piece of track between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU stations overnight. Service on the Orange line has resumed, though trains headed downtown are being restricted to 15 mph through that area of track today, which is adding a few extra minutes of travel time. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you that the evening commute on the Orange line will be close to normal for the first time this week.
Wave of Violence Overnight: The Post counts eight people were shot overnight in both the District and Prince George's County, including a 12-year-old boy and a man shot by a D.C. police officer near RFK Stadium. The man, who was reported seen staggering in the road to police, was shot and critically wounded during a scuffle with the responding officer after the man allegedly beat the officer with his own police baton. No deaths have been reported in any of the shootings.
Trinidad Checkpoint Extended Through Sunday: The "Neighborhood Safety Zone" checkpoint that police have set up in the Trinidad neighborhood will continue through Sunday, reports the Post.
Five Indicted in $500,000 Drug Bust: Five people have been indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking and interstate transportation of stolen goods charges, WTOP reports. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said her department has broken up a major drug ring that operated in the District and Prince George's County. As part of the bust, police seized two kilos of cocaine, 500 grams of crack cocaine, 147 pounds of marijuana, $140,000 in cash, and four firearms.
Briefly Noted: D.C. not providing proof of special ed teacher qualifications ... Former D.C. schools superintendent Clifford Janey named to head Newark, N.J. schools ... Crews working to fix water main break in Silver Spring.
This Day in DCist: Last year the Roy Pearson pants trial was getting underway, and the year before that we were contemplating the upcoming fireworks season.

You know, when I suggested that Metro could get a little "kinkier," that's not quite what I meant...

147 pounds of wacky tobacky?! according to my calculations, that would create a spliff roughly 2,047 feet long and result in many, many trips to Fatburger.
did I mention that i have glaucoma?

Maybe the Metro kinkyness explains its employees opening doors in tunnels.

Or them refusing to let you use their bathrooms. They want to watch you squirm with that great big swelling bladder.

Hi I'm actor Troy McClure. You might remember me from such DCist news features as 'Wmata Matters: Orange you glad you don't live in Arlington' and 'Man Arrests Cop: Another Night of Wacky Police Hijinx'.

Lanier has sure led to a lot of drug busts this year. Though that hasn't stopped the homicide rate from going through the roof...

For a city with strict gun laws and supposedly the best police force in the country....we sure have a lot of shootings and murders. Being non PC...the majority of the perps are Undereducated and Overthugged. Meaning that they think that the THUG life is all there is. I'd like to thank the parents, and mainstream media for spreading this.
If you live the thug life, you die the thug life.
Stop all the downloading.

"...supposedly the best police force in the country..."

McGillicuddy: We have several world class police forces here, but they don't patrol our streets -- they are doormen for chickensh*t Congressmen and foreign diplomats.
The rest of us get the MPD, when DC cops are not too busy directing ballpark traffic, running rolling roadblocks for VIP motorcades, and protecting the daily "Moms Against Bad Stuff" march.
