>> Bobbito Garcia's last time in town was a beautiful exploration of Stevie Wonder's catalog. Today, he'll be teaming up with locally-based rapper/producer/DJ, Roddy Rod at Liv for "Sole(ism)", a launch party for the Artistic-Sole shoe design outfit. $8 in advance/$12 at the door, 8 p.m.

>> Atlanta's Anthony David made a name for himself on the indie soul scene by writing songs for friend and Grammy winner, India Arie. Next week he'll release his third album, Acey Duecy. His two shows tonight will be part of Bohemian Caverns' "Rhythm & Soul" series. $15, 8 p.m. & 10 p.m.

Thursday:
>> DJ Neville C holds court at Cafe Saint-Ex for his reoccurring excursions into the music of Brazil. Free, 10 p.m.

Friday:
>> Born to a Romanian Gypsy mother and Nigerian father in Germany, Ayo has garnered worldwide attention for her folksy and soulful acoustic guitar playing, which is prominent on her debut release, Joyful. Her special seated 9:30 Club show will also feature Three Star alumna Wayna. $15, 8 p.m.

>> Mello-D & the Rados have been called one of the best hip-hop bands around and will be celebrating the release of their album, Antitainment Vol. 2: Truth, Lies, Etc. Joining them at the Velvet Lounge will be frequent collaborator, Bomani. $10, 9 p.m.

>> Martin Luther and Res will represent for all the soul rockers during their show at Penang. $15, 9 p.m.

Saturday:
>> Ron Trent has been a lead DJ and producer in this country's house music scene for years. The Chicagoan will be at the Warehouse Loft Studio (411 New York Ave. NE) along with DJs Adrian Loving, Iwah, Jahsonic, Stylus and Chris Burns. $10, 9 a.m.

what the f. i love it when cats are like, lets do something revolutionary with our design and then end up doing something so absolutely stupid like putting stalin and lenin on a flyer. i lol.

Yeah. Artists should sometimes be required to give a written account of their thought process when creating pieces. But at least Bob and Rod showed up on it.

 

Penang has shows?
