Morning Roundup: Oh, Oh it's Magic Edition

There's a lot to get excited about this morning, D.C. There was a double rainbow yesterday evening! (Check out the DCist Flickr pool for lots of different takes on them). Michelle Cross Fenty, the wife of Mayor Adrian Fenty, announced she is pregnant! Oh, and did we mention how there's definitely ice on Mars!? We'll have up to the minute news on puppies and faeries frolicking in the woods together later this afternoon.

Fenty to Name Nickles Permanent AG: The Post's David Nakamura is reporting that there's no longer any doubt that Mayor Fenty is planning on nominating interim Attorney General Peter Nickles for the permanent gig. That's not really big news, since everyone pretty much already knew that anyway, but Nakamura also says that a majority of D.C. Council members told him that they will likely support the choice. Fenty had yet to make an announcement about the nomination, but he needs to do it soon, since Nickles' interim term expires on July 3. Anyone spotted Nickles out shopping for District real estate?

About that New Fenty...: You read that right in the intro, Michelle Fenty is indeed pregnant, with the baby due in late fall. Michelle is quoted in a release put out by the mayor's office that "she is feeling great and is looking forward to meeting the newest addition to the family.” This isn't the first time a sitting mayor of Washington, D.C. has become a new father -- Marion and Effie Barry had son Christopher Barry in 1980, just about a year after Barry took office in his first term as mayor.

Briefly Noted: Fifteen new police recruits found to have failed their background checks ... the D.C. area ranks No. 2 in high-tech jobs ... Fatal shooting at 15th and D NE ... Fatal house fire in Bowie ... Early morning fire at abandoned church in Northwest.

Whenever I think "DC" I think "number twos."

Speaking of which, I gotta go. That Crossanwich isn't sitting too well with me.

Is the new Fenty kid going to go to DCPS?
No?
OK then.

I saw that double rainbow and it was super neat. I would have followed it to find the little Irishman with the pot o' gold, but I was too busy playing with my Wii.

And word is Nickels has been scouting out some condo options. My guess is that he'll still basically live in Virginia, but will declare DC residency, pay DC taxes, get a DC driver's license, etc.

"faeries"?

VERY COOL DOUBLE RAINBOW - Yes, I saw it. Was there for a long, long while. I was feeling like Dorothy in the barnyard with Toto. If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow why, oh why can't I?

And the Pilot reference in the title is a little obscure. Next big rainstorm, go with Leslie Gore:

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

Because I enjoy simple pleasures like butter in my a** and lollipops in my mouth.

Michelle Fenty. Mei Xiang. All those gals at Gloucester High. Thats like twenty baby showers.

Time for a bulk breast pump purchase. Again, I mean.

The sight of that rainbow as I was leaving the office last night certainly lifted my spirits. And the colors in the bottom one were super intense!

If Mei Xiang isn't really pregnant, does that mean that the Fenty baby will be sent to the zoo to be raised by giant pandas?

I saw the Fentys (sp? Fenties?) in their Smart Car gassing up at the Hess at NJ and RI NW yesterday. Mayor Fenty seemed much happier to be chatting with constituents than Mrs. Fenty, but their announcement could explain some of that.

Wish I had already heard it, so I could have said something better than my lame "Nice ride, Mayor Fenty"
