Homeless World Cup Trials

Indeed, as pointed out in comments, I left something out of the weekend picks. In fact, it's been sitting open in my browser all day, and I literally just skipped over it. This weekend D.C. is playing host to trials for potential members of a team that will represent the USA in the Homeless World Cup. About 100 homeless athletes will compete in teams from Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Richmond, Phoenix, San Francisco, St. Louis, and right here in Washington, D.C. The tournament's being held at the future Washington Kastles venue in the old convention center space at 11th and H Street NW. Check the web site for the full schedule of matches, and check out the fascinating rules for homeless street soccer the tournament abides by.

you soon get a clue as to what this is all about...

its a great thing!!

I think our boys stand a good chance to win this bitch. Other than San Francisco (the homeless capital of the world?), we definitely seem to have more homeless per capita than any of the other cities on the list. That equals a better pool from which to recruit players.
