Launch of D.C. Literary Site Canceled

HitotokiBack in March we wrote about how the literary web site Hitotoki (pronounced hee toe toe key) was seeking submissions to launch a D.C. edition. Sadly it appears our post wasn't enough to give the site enough momentum.

Greg Lavallee, who was handling the submissions for the D.C. site, wrote to DCist today:

It is with a heavy heart that I deliver news of Hitotoki D.C.'s demise. Unfortunately, we were unable to gather enough quality submissions over the last six months to muster enough for launch and the head editors have taken down removed our page (they're sorry as well).
The mother site — which launched in May 2007 — publishes stories tied to specific locations within cities such as Tokyo, New York and London. For now, it looks like D.C. won't be added to that list.

Hitoki posts narratives on a map. Too bad the DC version isn't happening. It could have posted stories on that CP neighborhood map.
