Swedes are friendly and lovable and their embassy knows how to throw a heck of a party. But unfortunately for electronic music-makers The Field, the State Department doesn't feel quite so warm and fuzzy. The band's had some trouble procuring visas for their stateside tour; they expected to receive them on June 3 (just in time to travel), but didn't get them in time. It's unclear at the moment when the proper paperwork will come through, but when it does, the show will be rescheduled.
The Rock & Roll Hotel is still hosting what booker Steve Lambert calls "stunning, dance friendly locals" Outputmessage and Lode Runner tonight, for the low low price of $6. It sounds like it's going to be quite a party. "Start at 8 p.m. with a $6 shot of Jager and drink FREE rail liquor until 9 p.m. After that it's $3 High Life and Mini Champagne Splits until 10:00 pm and then $2 shot of the night until last call." Doors for the show are at 8 p.m., music starts at 9 p.m.
UPDATE: Pitchfork has news that the bands' visas have now been successfully acquired. The D.C. show is still postponed, however.

Isn't this like the second or third act in the past year that had to cancel or postpone an RnR Hotel set because of visa issues? It's not confined just to the RnR Hotel though. The House recently voted on a bill to speed up visa processing for foreign artists. I guess Homeland Security (not State, according to this article) has been taking its sweet time.
You can't be too safe. Nothing is sacred to those Swedish Terrorists.
Just a head's up- the drink specials are part of the Not Dead Yet promotion that is ongoing at the Hotel on first and third Wednesday's. The specials listed are available upstairs only.
They should stop trying to smuggle all those delicious meatballs into this country.
That's exactly what happened to New Model Army (who played at the RnR Hotel) and Lacuna Coil (who were going to play at Jaxx).
I wonder if my grandmother was a terrorist. She was Swedish. Never can tell with them.
