This Week In Hip-Hop

Tuesday:
>> For over 40 years, Sergio Mendes has been the foremost purveyor of bossa nova music and lent his talents to the likes of Stevie Wonder and Will.I.Am. He'll be at Wolf Trap's Filene Center in Vienna, VA along with Belgium's Zap Mama. $22-$44, 8 p.m.

Wednesday:
>> This week's installment of Bohemian Caverns' "Rhythm and Soul" series features two shows from the well-regarded artist, Vinx. $15, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

>> Tru Skool's Beat Grinder competition is back to showcase the sounds of some of D.C.'s up and coming producers. On hand at Liv to keep the show moving will be Grap Luva, Oddisee, and Kokayi along with DJs Damu and Underdog. $7, 9 p.m.

>> Entering the home stretch of their tour, Three Stars alum Flex Mathews and Kosha Dillz (pictured) will take the stage at Chief Ike's for a show. $5, 9 p.m.

Friday:
>> Local favorite and indie soul star Eric Roberson will be at the 9:30 Club for a 4th of July performance that will also feature Franklin Bridge and the Fuzz Band. $15, 9 p.m.

>> DJ Dredd is once again at the Black Cat's backstage for another edition of his "Close 2 the Edge" party. He'll be spinning some of the best dance hip-hop from yesteryear. $6, 9 p.m.

Saturday:
>> One of disco's reigning queens, Donna Summer, will be at Wolf Trap's Filene Center in Vienna. $25-$42, 8 p.m.

Monday:
>> The youngest son of the legendary Fela, Seun Kuti, will take the 9:30 Club stage with his Egypt 80 band. $25, 7 p.m.

Are you guys the only ones with Donna Summer tickets but trying to convince other people it's a good idea?
This is the second time it's been mentioned in a music roundup in as many days.

And having said that, I'd like to offer my keyboard clacking talents toward a new DCist weekly segment, "Gimme the Lute: The Week Gone Baroque."
